Ethans
House...Too
BY Heather L. Olson
The sun shone bright
in Heaven one day,
And all the little children went out to play.
The children streamed out of Ethan's House,
shouting and laughing, holding hands,
and smiling on their way.
Ethan himself, copper curls a-shine,
was playing just as hard as the rest of the group,
when he noticed a little girl whose dark
little head had begun to droop. Ethan stole over
to her, and just as her tears began to well,
He asked, "Sydnie
what's wrong?"
Little Sydnie looked at him, the tears still
in her eyes, "Ethan," she said. "You know I
have been here for awhile, and I know the
way things go. I love to see my Paw-Paw,
I see him every day. I love him so much,
in almost every way. I love to be with Jesus,
and all you kids here too, But Ethan,
I just don't know what to do.
I miss my Mommy so much, I see her
hurt for me everyday. I've sent her a
rainbow, here and there, Sometimes I follow
her everywhere. She is so lonesome without
me, with just Martin still at home, I don't know
what to do for her, she feels so all alone.
Martin, my brother, and my Daddy miss me too.
Tell me Ethan
what do I have to do?"
Ethan shook his head and said,
"Sydnie, there is no easy answer to that.
Our families miss us every day; we can
never change that. But we can know that
time is kind, and someday you will see,
Your Mommy won't hurt so very much,
but you will always be the little child
in her heart, the one who loved sweets
And hugged her brother every chance she got,
And held her Daddy at her beck and call.
The pain will always be there,
for the pain is an ache of love.
She knows you are with Jesus now,
knows you have gone to dwell above.
But she longs for your presence there on Earth,
as you long for hers Here in Heaven,
she will be here, bye and bye,
till then you must be patient."
Sydnie reached and took Ethan's hand,
and said, "But I want my Mommy to be happy.
I am afraid that will never come for her
as lonely as she is, I have heard her speak
of maybe having a new sister or a brother,
Oh how I long for that for my Mother."
Ethan said, "Maybe someday you will
have a little brother or sister to look over and
take care of, but for now, your Mommy needs you.
She needs you to look after her, and for you to be happy.
To send her a rainbow, now and then,
all bright and shiny and new,
She loves you so much,
she needs to remember that you love her too."
Sydnie's smile turned itself on full force,
and Ethan's sun-bright too,
And together they painted a rainbow
full of beautiful colors and hues.
When the other children saw what they
were up to, They all ran to help, and soon
the rainbow had many little handprints,
Like those of little elves. The rainbow,
finished, stretched from one end of Heaven
to the other, and as they lowered it down,
it wrapped itself around the Earth
In a cosmic, multicolored, healing hug.
