Caedmon's Call

danny and i spent another late night over pancakes
we talked about soccer and how every mans just the same
and made speculation on the whos and the whens of our future
and how everyones lonely but still we just couldnt complain

and how we just hate being alone
could i have missed my only chance
and now i'm just wasting my time
by looking around

but you know i know better, i'm not going to worry about nothing
cause if the birds and the flowers survive, then i'll make it ok
if given a chance and a rock see which one breaks a window
and see which one keeps me up all night and into the day

because i'm so scared of being alone
that i forgot what house i live in
that its not my job to wait by the phone
for her to call

well this days been crazy but everythings happening on schedule
from the rain and the cold to the drink that i spilled on my shirt
cause You knew how You'd save me before i fell dead in the garden
and You knew this day long before you made me out of dirt

and You know the plans that You have for me
and You can't plan the ends and not plan the means
and so i suppose i just need some peace
just to get me to sleep

The other night i met a girl
and she looked to be so nice
i asked her for the digits
and she didnt think twice
a couple days later called her up and ask her out
she said, "with you?" i said, "with me,"
and then she said, "without a doubt"
i took her to the garden where i guess they grow the olives
she wore a tighter skirt than any i had seen in college
she said, "i love to smoke and drink while cursing like a sailor"
i asked her where she got her mouth and if she had a tailor
finally i walked her to the door to say goodnight
she said, "i am an apple would you care to take a bite"
politely i refused and said, "i'm looking for a lady"
so she slapped me in my face and said, "Boy you must be crazy!"

shes that kinda girl, virtuous in every way
that kinda girl that makes you say, "i hope she comes my way"

well i'm lookin for a girl whos virtuous cause God laid it on my heart to search for this
so i open up the Word to the book of Proverbs, the 31st chapter tells me all about her
charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, a women who fears the Lord, she aint playin
hear what i'm saying, cause i'm saying it clearly
shes the kinda girl i gots to have near me

well i'm lookin into hookin with a lady, and not a girl of the world thats shady
but the kinda girl you meet behind the doors of a church ya see? God will bring her to me
so i dont have to search
too hard i've been scarred by the ones of the past, so i put an APB out on the one that will last a little longer than a roll in a the hay for sure
but a bona fide lady's what i'm prayin for
