    Please Stand By... growing pains!

YAHOO!GeoCities is still undergoing it's tranformation, and we are still experiencing minor glitches. If you are caught up in one of these glitches, or find you are having difficulties of any kind with your account you should contact your Community Leader for your neighborhood. While CL's don't always have an answer for you, they can forward your problem or complaint to the correct Y!G department for an answer.

If you still have not gone through the re-registration process, we urge you to do it now. The longer you put this off, the less likely you will be able to retain your membername and you will not be able to access your file directory or other tools. If you are unsure of how to complete this process, contact your CL for detailed instructions and assistance.

This process should be nearing an end now, soon things will become stable and dependable... so start working on those page revisions!

Have you got an idea for a news article, or have you posted some information regarding business, web page building, or other related topic you would like covered in our newsletter?

We would love to hear from you and include your ideas in our newsletter. To submit information or article to this newsletter please use the Contact Editor form.

We are particularly interested in tutorials, graphic resources, web publishing tips, JavaScript Apps and other tools that would be of interest to our readership.

    YAHOO! AT THE MOVIES

    Cameo Roll In Disney Film

It was a typical evening out for this CL and her family, we had decided to indulge the children with a Disney movie, Inspector Gadget. I never really expected to be entertained or amuzed by the movie, so you can imagine my surprize when it turned out to be decent.

Now, you may ask 'what does YAHOO! have to do with this?'. In the beginning of the movie, Security Officer John Brown (Matthew Broderick - Inspector Gadget) while in pursuit of Sanford Scolex (Rupert Everett - Claw) hits a huge billboard which slowly falls over on our villian's car. The billboard sported a YAHOO! advertisment - obviously YAHOO! paid to have their name promenently profiled in the movie. I have to admit, it sent up cheers from many of the audience who immediately recognized the YAHOO! name. I wondered how many of them had home pages with GeoCities or mail accounts with YAHOO!

3D buffs will appreciate the opening graphics, the Disney logo which self-destructs and merges into the Gadget logo. The effects throughout were seamless and flawless. The Official Gadget Site is extremely well prepared but requires Flash and Shockwave to fully appreciate. The page itself is interactive and I would recommend the Repair Gadget game. If you have children, I would recommend the movie and send them to the Official IG Site.

    Y2K BUG

    Fears Are Unfounded

As we approach the rollover of the calendar to the year 2000, many have been misled to believe our computers will crash and all services that are computer-based will be rendered useless. Nothing could be further from the truth!

The Y2K bug applies mainly to the older UNIX based main frame systems, your Mac, PC, Amiga or other system is not likely to be affected by the changing of the millennium. Since most newer systems are using a four digit year in their clocks, they will recognize the change as being 2000 and not 00. Service such as utilities and telephones have already addressed and corrected the problem before it occurs. Of course there could be a bug or two in the system that might have been missed, but come January 1, 2000 you will not notice any difference to your computer, or the services you receive... including banking.

In the meantime, less than reputable companies have cropped up to sell you Bug Fixes that are not required, and are feeding off the fears of those who do not exactly understand what the Y2K Bug is and who is actually affected. Laughably, we have begun seeing products packaged with Y2K Compliant on them, when in fact they would run regardless and there is nothing specifically done to the programming to address the Y2K calendar.

    THE CLUB CONNECTION

    Getting Connected To Others

Since the Internet was established for the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and information, it was only a matter of time before club and group areas were formed. YAHOO!Clubs are just the answer if you are looking to interact with people who share your interests. YAHOO! provides the hosting space, a message area, chat room, calendar, news page, phto albums, handy links, and more.

While there are alreay hundreds of clubs formed covering almost every topic imaginable, if you don't find one that serves your needs you can always create one of your own. Setting up your club is relatively simple, all you really need is to determine your topic or theme. Your club provides all the tools you'll need including an invitation tool so you can start building your membership.

    NEW GUESTBOOKS

If you never added a guestbook to your GeoCities home page, now is the time. YAHOO! has added not one, but 5 guestbook formats for you to choose from.

A guestbook will allow you to track guests, view their comments on your page, and provides you with their URL's so you can visit their pages also. The Guestbook Set-Up is where you will find all the information you require to get started. They provide the option of styles and colors, provide you with the source coding and preset pages. Not unlike the former guestbook, but now with easier to manipulate options.

To make life even easier, the Guestbook can be sent to the GeoBuilder area for those who use this online tool to create and edit pages. It doesn't get any easier!
