Systems.
General Information
Real-Time Operating Systems
-
RTEMS
Home Page - the Real Time Executive Multi-Processor System, a freely available real-time
operating system introduced and supported by the U.S. Army, comes with
a lot of development tools and very good and complete documentation
-
WindRiver
VxWorks - one of the most widely known real-time operating systems
developed by WindRiver, available for many processors (Intel, Motorola,
Sparc, ...), highly portable and adaptable with its configurable Board
Support Packages (BSP) to many different hardware platforms, comes with
good development environmant (WindRiver Tornado), used in many commercial
applications and areas like machine and process control, networking systems,
printers, mobile cellular phones, also known for its use in the NASA space
mission "Mars Pathfinder"
-

Windows NT Real-Time Extensions
Based on Windows NT, several
companies have developed real-time extensions or operating systems that
co-exist with Microsoft Windows on the same PC. The software-only or hardware
supported real-time part runs as primary task on the system and gives Windows
the remaining processing time.

-
OSEK
- OSEK means "Offene Systeeme und deren Schnittstellen für
die Elektronik im Kraftfahrzeug" ("Open systems and the
corresponding interfaces for automotive electronics"). OSEK started
as a joint project of the German / European automotive industry, it aims
at an industry standard for an open-ended architecture for distributed
embedded control units in vehicles.
