Thinking about childcare

Family Daycare is becoming more and more popular now that most families are dual-income households.  This site does not have information about daycare centers.  This site deals mainly with family and group family daycare.

How is quality regulated?

There is no absolute guarantee of quality in daycare programs.  Several factors can help to maintain high quality care in these  programs:

PARENT INVOLVMENT:
As a parent, you have the right to drop in at any time to observe the children or the program while the family daycare home is in operation.

ADULT-CHILD RATIOS:
Regulated programs limit the number of children each provider may care for.  These standards help make sure children are properly cared for.

Training and Experience:
Providers must have prior experience with children and must continue ongoing training in fields including safety, nutrition, and child abuse. This on-going training helps aid the provider in creating the best atmosphere to help children grow and learn.

check with the people and friends you trust for getting referrals and information about specific childcare providers.  If you still need help looking for childcare then call St. Lawrence Child Care Council at 393-6474 or the New York Parents' Connection at 1-800-345-KIDS
