In 32 patients with diabetic neuropathy but without clinical evidence of brainstem lesion or deafness the BAEPs were recorded bilaterally. Delay of various wave components as well as of intrapeak latencies was observed in 9 patients unilaterally and in 4 bilaterally. In 5 patients increased latencies of a single isolated wave component were marked, which pointed to isolated brainstem lesions. These results demonstrate the usefulness of the BAEPs in the further research and diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy.
