BRAINSTEM AUDITORY EVOKED POTENTIALS (BAEP) IN MIGRAINE PATIENTS. Kountouris,D. 1, Skondras,S. 1, De Crandis,D. 2 Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) after mono-and binaural stimulation were recorded in more than 40 patients with typical migraine-syndrome.60 dB above threshold click stimuli at a 10 Mz frequency were applied and 2000 synchronous bilateral mastoid-vertex recordings were averaged. Age, sex, risk-factor, family-history and concomitant diseases were taken into consideration in interpreting the presence and severity of BAEP abnormalities. The results were compared with those of a control subject group. BAEP abnormalities of various types were detected in most patients with migraine-syndrome. By means of BAEP, even small lesions can be detected, in particular in the brainstem. It is being discussed whether functional disturbancies, especially in the brainstem, may be caused by migraine-attacks, or preexisting lesions may result frequent migraine-attacks.
