c450 | Gaymers (origin "of Wiesmar") migrate from Angeln (now
Schleswig-Holstein) to Britain becoming yeoman farmers in Norfolk. There are other interpretations of the origins of the name. Migrations via Normandy are possible but East Anglia is a clear British homeland of the Gaymers, and was hardly populated by the Norman invaders at all. Also there appear to be local roots of the name previous to 1066. Norfolk and Suffolk retain, to this day, a very strong Angel influence rather than the Norman influence in the 'Home Counties'. The Anglo Saxon Chronicles, Nennius and Bede all record that Angeln and the areas around the chief city, Wiesmar, were emptied in the Angel migration to Britain.
