L.B. Cockatoo

Cockatoos are large birds with impressive feathering. They are attention-seeking and noisy, but they are also intelligent, comical and affectionate. All cockatoos are screamers but they can also speak clearly, though they are limited in vocabulary. These birds are cuddly, but sometimes to the point of being a pain in the neck. Cockatoos can be high strung. They have the great ability for picking locks so caution is needed in choosing their cages and they are also great chewers and destroyers of toys.

Umbrella Cockatoo

Scarlet Macaws - Although not the largest macaw, the Scarlet can reach a length of thirty-three inches or more. A good part of its length is in its tial, but it is still a massive and powerful bird. The Scarlets good temper should not be abused or taken for granted, as this bird is capable of doing serious damage. Its cage should be strongly constructed and all exposed wooden surfaces, including perches replaced on a regular basis.

Scarlet Macaw and Amazon - An unlikely duo as you can see. The Amazons as a group are extremely popular and the family consists of more than fifty species. Amazons are green with a variety of cheek, crown, nape, shoulder and other markings. They vary in size from the small Spectacled Amazon to the hefty Mealy Amazon. Amazons learn to mimic speech which has helped them retain their popularity as pets.

Blue Front Amazon - This bird is frequently confused with the Orange-Wing Amazon. The Blue-Front is slim, graceful bird reaching lengths of fourteen to fifteen inches. Bright yellow markings appear on the crown and cheeks as well as on the ear converts and around the eyes. The Blue Front does not always shine as a talker but its delightful personality more than makes up for this.

Eclectus - If you remember nothing else, remember this please: The MALES ARE ALWAYS GREEN and the FEMALES ARE ALWAYS RED.

Greenwing Macaw and Hyacinth Macaw - Stately birds at their best. The Greenwings (left) have massive heads and are about thirty four inches long with a formidable beak to match its substantial head. Their nakes cheek patch has between six and seven rows of bright red feathers and they have a deep red head, chest and tail. They make awesum pets (I have one, I know). The Hyacinths (right) is the largest of the parrots, with marles reaching a length of fortty inches or more. Their feathers are rich blue except for the under flights which are steely gray. They are extremely loud and expensive and rare.
