INTRODUCTION
The VR™M3 is the newest addition to the VECTOR RESEARCH family of products. VR™M3 integrates a router, a 4 port 10Base-T Hub and 3 serial ports for modem connections via standard analog phone lines to the Internet. This product now makes shared simultaneous Internet access from a workgroup widely available to millions of customers that are currently using a single or multi-modem solution that only services the needs of one user at a time.

With VR™M3, it is now practical for everyone in a small business to get on the Internet in a simple nad efficient manner. M3 provides the simplicity of analog with the speed of ISDN using web-optimised COLT (Connection Optimised Link Technology). M3 is easy to use and priced under M$2500. It allows multiple users to share the same resources, in this case ISP accounts, modems and phone lines, saving timemoney and increasing user productivity. With COLT, users can improve the download speed of a web page by up to 3 times.


VR™M3 also incorporates EasyIP. EasyIP has built-in support for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), as well as Single IP and Dynamic IP. DHCP eliminates all manual steps involved in assigning individual IP addresses to PCs and/or Macintoshes®. Each time the computer boots up, it automatically gets the configuration data needed to reach the Internet.

EasyIP also enables small businesses to significantly reduce Internet Service Provider (ISP) account charges for multi-user Internet access. With EasyIP, small businesses can subscribe to a single user account and share that account through the entire Local Area Network (LAN), resulting in significant savings in ISP account charges annually.

Lastly, because VR™M3 takes advantage of standard phone lines, users do not have to wait for the installation of a digital line when Internet requirements demand immediate access. In areas where ISDN is not available, the VR™M3 is the ideal solution for small office access to the Internet.

  • Connection Optimised Link Technology - allows users to combine together the speed of up to 3 modems and phone lines thereby increasing the download speeds of web pages by up to three times. When COLT is used together with the latest 56K modems, the VR™M3 can achieve downloads speeds equivalent to an ISDN line.

  • Browser-based configuration - The VR™M3 demonstrates Vector Research's new browser-based configuration screens. These easy to use screens can be accessed from a Windows™ based PC or a Macintosh® using a standard Internet browser. The VR™Wizard walks new users through their first time setup.

  • Bundled cables and software - The VR™M3 provides everything you need to get started including a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer™, power supply, user manual, and a getting started folder to quickly get you on your way.

  • Wide array of modems supported - VR™M3 has been tested with most major modem manufacturers to ensure modem compatibility, and the VR™M3 supports Initialisation strings so that virtually any modem can be used with it.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
To make the best use of the VR™M3 you will require:
  • 486 PC or better, running Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or Windows NT
  • Any Macintosh running System 7.5 or better
  • Installation utility uses minimal system resources
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer prefers 8 MB RAM for Windows 95 and 4 MB RAM for the Macintosh
  • TCP/IP software on every computer (comes with Windows 95, NT and MAcintosh System 7.53)

You will also need the following:

  • 10Base-T network card for every computer
  • Additional Ethernet cables
  • 1, 2 or 3 external modems
  • 1 modem cable for every modem with DB9 female connector to attach to the VR™M3
  • 1 separate phone line for every modem
  • 1 separate Internet account per modem
  • Email postboxes for each individual who requires one (obtainable from your ISP)
  • AOL™ users please use "bring-your-own" access option
