The desktop display models can generally be divided into three categories:1. The resin/plastic models whose markings are from decals. Not to be confused with modeling kits from Revell, Hasegawa, Fujimi, Tamiya and the like.2. Handmade wooden aircraft done mostly or completely with decals.3. Completely Handmade, Hand painted models. As a general rule , of the three types. number 3 is the most expensive. It is also the showcase for the abilities of the artisans and the better aircraft will show the obvious pride of the craftsmen in their work.As another general rule, the larger model is the more expensive one. However when it comes to hand painted ones, the smaller versions sometimes cost as much as the next size up because any savings in materials is negated by the amount of labor spent in making the smaller markings. In other words, the painstaking process of hand painting the markings is made all the more difficult when making a smaller model. The most important rule to remember is that there is a VERY big variation in the quality (and price) of models particularly those of the third type. The differences will be most apparent in the small details of the model. There the difference between the true (and well paid) artist and the trainee will be seen.Look carefully and remember, if you are on a budget and all you want is a passable replica with good details, get the decaled ones, perhaps even the plastic ones.BUT, if you want a WORK OF ART or you want THE MODEL of your dreams, go for the handmade, hand painted ones. These are the ULTIMATE in quality and detail. They are not cheap but in this category remember, you get what you pay for.
