My first trip to the Argentia base was a last minute decision. We really had no idea what to expect. We figured we could just go out and check out the airfield and thats it. We didn't even really know where the airfield was. We drove around and realized that we actually had go past the ferry to get there. No luck, the north side of the base is off limits while they clean up and get rid of the rest of the bunkers and stuff over there. All the restricted area signs had us a little nervous while driving around the place. We saw a tall, cement building on the other side of the base (BOQ/CBQ). Past the BOQ there where a bunch of PMQ's (Housing). We drove up there just to have a look. There was a bunker just up behind the houses. We didn't have much time to check it out because there was a moose walking around about 100 ft from the car, plus there were 2 Canadian forces guys unloading some more asbestos in one of the bunkers.
