WHO & WHERE WE ARE

Wayne and Barbara Benke, owners and operators of the WB Inc. and Benke Ostrich Ranch, welcome you! Having been in the ostrich business since 1994, we operate two ostrich facilities; our homesite on 230 acres West of San Antonio, Texas, USA, and a 33-acre, 155 pen, 2-chick barn ranch in Lytle, Texas, USA.

Located 20 miles South of downtown San Antonio and 130 miles North of the Mexican border, WB Inc. and Benke Ostrich Ranch has over 400 breeding Red, Blue, and African Black ostriches. We export to other countries such as the Philippines, Taiwan, Mexico, and are presently negotiating to export several hundred birds to the new Korean breeder market.

LICENSE & EXPORT

We are licensed with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife for proper exportation into foreign countries. There is a qualified veterinarian available to verify and supply the necessary health papers required prior to exportation. Our haulers transport birds to the airport or to your ranch. A special feed formula is provided for the hens and roosters with the proper nutritional balance in order to supply high quality eggs that will produce strong healthy chicks.

INCUBATION

Last year, both ranches produced over 6,000 eggs. Our eggs were incubated in equipment purchased from San Antonio Incubators, Inc. in Elmendorf, Texas. These incubators provide perfect temperature and humidity 24 hours a day without malfunction. The trays that hold the eggs are easily handled for loading and candling of the eggs. Good equipment produces strong chicks that survive! Eggs exported into Mexico provided 1 to 3 day old chicks available for sale directly in Mexico, which eliminated costs and reduced stress on transporting young chicks.

CHICKS & SLAUGHTER

From our last year's season, there are over 700 chicks for sale. They range from 7 to 12 months old and are up to 250 pounds at over 7 feet tall. The birds are very strong and healthy, and are ready for purchase.

Yearlings are available for slaughter as well. Meat orders provide fan filets, tender filets, whole strip tenders, ground, and fajita; delicious tender, lean, and healthy red meat with the texture of a steak!
