Class 5a of the Primary School 168 from Warsaw
We are the fifth graders at the Primary School No. 168 in Warsaw, Poland. There are six grades at Primary Schools in Poland. Then we have to pass the exam and we can go to the Gymnasium for the next three years.
Our school is situated in a very nice south-eastern district of Warsaw. There are about 600 students in our school, and in our class there is 28 of us - 13 girls and 15 boys. Our tutor and English teacher is Mrs. Katarzyna Engwert-Malajkat. She is cool! The school has got the linguistic profile, so we learn more foreign languages than at the normal Primary Schools. Our native language is Polish, but we learn English and German, as well. We like to learn foreign languages very much. If you know them - you can communicate with people all over the world!
Last year in May it was the 35th anniversary of our school and we had a great "international" festival and parade in the streets around the school. Each class was representing one chosen nation from all around the world. We have been wearing national costumes and serving special regional dishes on the schoolyard after the parade. Our class was representing Malta - the small on the island on the Mediterranean sea. The official language on Malta is English! Our parents joined us at the festival as well and we had a very good time together.
Not only the holidays - but everyday is interesting at our school! We are reading and writing - one of the girls from our class read 70 books last year! There is plenty of afternoon activities at school. Among them: painting and drawing, dances, theatre group which performs in English. During last months our little theatre won several prizes at the children theatre contests.
Our students are good in math (a lot of us has taken part in the "international mathematical kangaroo competition") as well as in sports: we are swimming, playing volleyball, running short and long distances. Some of us play tennis and ski (in the winter of course!). Almost all of us are roller-skating.
During the school year we make a lot of excursions. We visit museums, galleries, interesting historical places and and we go to the movies and theatre. This is very interesting to learn outside the school walls!
Once a year we make a longer trip. It is called "The Green School". Last year we were at the Mazurian Lakes - north-east of Poland. Each day we had a few lessons and than we went to see the interesting places in the neighbourhood. We visited an artist's workshop and a sanctuary of wild animals where we saw a wolf, wild boar, deer and various birds. As well, we had some time to make a boat tour and swim in the nice swimming pool with many slides and other extras. We had a great time over there! This year we go the "Green School" in the mountains. Everybody is already looking forward to it.
