Eurydice

on Young Hercules

played by Morgan Reese Fairhead

BACKGROUND

Way back in the fall of 1999, I took a course in college called Greek and Roman Myth. Our final assignment for that class was to find an instance of mythology in our "everyday" lives. One person did their project on the names of the planets, another did the movie "Clash of the Titans", and someone else did the opera telling the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. My partner and I did Young Hercules: the Movie.

During the person's presentation about the opera of Orpheus and Eurydice, she repeatedly mispronounced "Eurydice" so that it rhymed with mice. Eurydice, as I've always been taught, had four syllables, and was pronounced "yur-RIH-dih-see" with the accent on the second syllable. The entire presentation was ruined for me because this person could not get the pronunciation right, and the professor never corrected her.

Two weeks later, when I needed to pick an online name, that came back to me. For that and many other reasons, Eurydice became my online name. And Eurydice, more than the rest, deserves a shrine here.

THE CHARACTER

The character Eurydice appeared in only four episodes of Young Hercules. I wrote a (somewhat) brief description of the plots of the four episodes and what it meant to the Young Hercules world. You can read that here.

THE ACTRESS

Morgan Reese Fairhead, an actress from New Zealand, played Eury. All pictures on this site of a blond woman that I'm likely pretending to be me are in fact Morgan. Ultimately, I'm planning on doing a shrine to Morgan herself instead of just Eury, but Eury is where it all started.

Eventually, what I hope to have on this page is more info about Eury on YH, Morgan on Xena, and Morgan's other projects. I have a large collection of images that I'd like to share, most of which were taken with permission from other webpages.
