Chapter 8

Kendra awoke to the sound of giggles coming from the next room.  Though she had fought for more privacy her whole life she still hadn't gotten used to Leena being so far away.   Now the sheet of drywall that divided the room they used to share in two seemed like blocks of distance.

"No I thought you . . . can't see you doing . . . If walked in on him naked I'd run like . . . How come?" Blocks apart but still thin enough to hear through.

Leena laughed again.  Kendra could tell her sister was trying to stay quite.  Normally the whole house could hear her telephone conversations.  Zac was obviously being particularly amusing this morning.   It was irritating how the Hanson family was continually invading her home even when they weren't on the same continent.

Rolling out of bed Kendra flicked on her radio.

"More Y2K songs! Come on!"  The 'Willemium' song was getting on her nerves.  Finding nothing better on the other stations Kendra reluctantly turned it off.  Moments hadn't passed before her bedroom was filled with music from the living room.  Her brother, Kale, always had a way of tormenting her without even knowing it.  She cringed as the song 'Anthem Year 2000' by silverchair was turned up.

"Is there no escaping this?!" Kendra declared marching to the living room.

"Kale!  Turn off that Y2K crap . . ." She stopped dead as her yelling brought her brother out of the kitchen.  He looked puzzled with a half-eaten pop-tart in his hand. "I thought you were in the living room." Astonished, Kendra was reluctant to discover who actually was at the stereo.

"Good Morning," A male voice said from behind. She cringed.  "Since when do you dislike silverchair?"

A sudden need for more clothes overcame her as she stood in the hallway wearing a pair of boxers and a thin white Tee. Kale laughed, narrating the situation to someone in the kitchen, Taylor Hanson soon came peeking out from behind him.

"Are you ignoring me again?" The voice by the radio laughed.  I'm surrounded by men. Kendra shuttered desiring nothing more than a house coat.

"Hey," the voice expressed, "You still have the strawberry birthmark on your thigh!"

"You just never mind about my birthmarks!" Kendra snapped, pivoting to accost Isaac face to face.  He flinched as if she were going to slap him then turned the radio up.

"You act like I've never seen it before." He smiled.

"Well it's not funny!" She felt more self-conscious as she prayed he couldn't see through her cheap shirt.  "I've seen you naked!  You're not one to comment on odd shaped things on my body!"  She retorted.

"What was that?!" With attention perked Kale and Taylor bounded out from the kitchen.

Isaac's whole body turned a bright pink from embarrassment.  "You over reacting Kendra.  The birthmark is cute."  He looked over to the kitchen door to see Mrs. Carlos standing in the in the doorway.  "And it's been a while since we've been naked together."  With a  coy smile he made an astute exit.

"And what time would he be referring to Kendra." Mrs. Carlos asked fighting a smile. Kendra glared at her mother and marched to her room to find clothes.

"What the heck are they doing back here anyway?" She mumbled as she searched her closet.  Isaac had a way of presenting sexual innuendoes in such an innocent  manner that it was hard to follow just how much of the joke he truly understood.

"It's been a while since we've been naked together Kendra." She mimicked, chucking her old T-shirt at the closed door.  "Mom better understand that was a joke or he is in so much trouble!"  She huffed out of her room
