• Here's a report of my games during the Oklahoma State Championship for YJ.
  • Overall, it was pretty fun, but there was one major problem and I will explain what happened later. I played Destroyer Droids and Coruscant Guards Game 1 - DS vs. John Bond John played this weird Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan/Anakin/Padme/R2-D2/C-3PO deck. I had heard this deck was actually pretty good since he typically had some pair to pull off some combo. But not today. He NEVER had the right combo or right battle cards at the right time. To make matters worse, I gave up Naboo after he deployed Qui-Gon, Obi, Anakin, AND R2 with no transports in hyperspace. I won by 30 cards. My standings 2 +30 (2nd place by 1 card)
  • Game 2 - LS vs. David Jones David played a Sebulba deck and it was pretty good, but again, not good enough to beat my C-Guards deck. To make matters worse, he made a mistake in his last battle plan. He put the battle card first, then Sebulba, then Sebulba's pod, then A&T Gella, so the weapon was ignored. My Guards took out the pair and on my turn, I beat his last Sebulba and decked him out. I won by 23. My standings 4 +53 (1st place now)
  • Game 3 - LS vs. Eric Paugh Eric played an Aurra/Nute/Rune deck. He won the right to go first and chose to start on Tatooine. I don't play on Tatooine, so after he deployed Aurra, her rifle and Rune, I gave up the planet. We went to Coruscant and he gave it up fairly quickly, so on to Naboo. On his second turn (face up), he deployed a Rune Haako to Naboo. Unfortunately he hadn't transported Rune off of Tatooine. I called him on it. He had to pick him back up from Naboo and lost 3 deploy counters. Then he tried to put down Nute saying that's what he meant to do. The TD ruled and I crushed him on the next turn. I won by 36. My standings 6 +89 (way out in front now)
  • Game 4 - DS vs. Eric Paugh This particular round was pretty strange. Everyone that played against each other in game 3 switched sides and played against the same people in game 4. Eric played something with Anakins and Senators in it. I did not get any battle cards until the third planet. He played real slow in this game, and I guess I did too. It came down to 2 unarmed destroyer droids on Coruscant vs. and E-Yoda and an E-Anakin. He won by 1 card with 1 second left on the clock. My standings 6 +88 (still in first by differential)
  • Game 5 - DS vs. Guy Kargl Guy and I work together. Our offices are next door to each other. And we both play Destroyer Droids and Coruscant Guards. We were on the third planet and we each only had 2 cards in our discard pile. By the end, I had lost my battle cards and lost the game by 12. My standings 6 +76 (3rd place now, behind Guy and Eric) However, after this game we had our first deck check and we discovered a problem. Eric's LS deck was different from his list. I had lost to it and Guy had lost to it too. All the TDs got together and came to a decision. Eric was removed from the tournament. It did not go well either. Finally everything settled down and we returned to the room. Unfortunately, we found another deck list mistake in another deck. We really hated to do it, but Tim got kicked out too. I suppose it was just as well since Eric was leaving and he was Tim's ride. It put a damper on the day, needless to say, but this is Decipher's official stance on deck lists considering what happened during DecipherCon last year. Back to the games.
  • Game 6 - LS vs. Guy Kargl Guy and I work together. Our offices... oh yeah, I said that already! This time, the draws went completely against Guy and I won by 39!
  • The final standings were: 1st - Jeff Stombaugh 8 +115 2nd - Guy Kargl 8 +18 3rd - David Jones 6 -25 4th - Connor Stombaugh 4 -24 5th (tie) - John Bond 4 -56 (John won 2 out of 3 games vs. Shawn) 5th (tie) - Shawn Schaumburg 4 -56 I chose the Adi Gallia foil and John Bond won the TFT Laser Cannon foil. Shawn got a German TNWS battle card and a Japanese Naboo Officer card. I will post the results of the Final Confrontation later. Sorry for the length of the report.
  • The Final Confrontation - Guy and I faced each other for the Oklahoma State Championship. Game 1 - LS Guy got better draws this game. This game ended with one of the best moves I've ever tried. It came down to this. I had an onsite (Senate) C-Guard with a matching GC Blaster Rifle. However I only had one card in my draw pile. Guy had at least 4 onsite destroyer droids and at least 3 weapons deployed and 2 cards in his draw pile. I couldn't battle using my weapon or I would lose. I couldn't battle without my weapon because Guy could draw one card for destiny and beat me. Then it hit me. I had 4 starfighters deployed in hyperspace, along with Radiant VII. In my hand, I had Amidala's Transport. Guy had Maul's Sith Infiltrator and at least 2 <> Sith Infiltrators. My plan? To attempt a rescue from the current planet, and here's why. By putting my transports first, I could possibly force Guy to draw 2 destinies and deck himself out. What was even better, Guy forgot I had Rad VII down already. He kept asking me why I was doing this. Since Guy was playing a destroyer deck, I knew there were a lot of 2s in the deck. I figured he would put Maul's Infiltrator first and one of the generic ones next. If he drew a 2 for the first one, it would be a push, and he would only have one card left in his draw pile. He would be forced to draw it for destiny in the 2nd space battle and lose the game. If I could just get a push, I would win. It was a gutsy move and would have gone down in YJ history, if it had worked. Unfortunately he drew a 6 and shot Ami's Transport into smithereens! Even his last card was a destiny 6. So he won the first game by 1 card. Game 2 - DS I couldn't get anything right after that last game. I lost by 23. Final results - Guy Kargl is the Oklahoma State Young Jedi Champion for 2001 and for the second year in a row, I am the Runner Up. Guy won a nice embroidered fanny pack that declares him the State Champion. My card tote says I am the State Runner Up. It is kind of cool because it holds 2 YJ Collector's Boxes. I won the tournament and came in 2nd for the title. I got a foil Adi Gallia and a Runner Up card tote, Guy got the Championship fanny pack. Ok, it was a card tote too. Just getting one last dig in on Guy.

Congrats

OKLAHOMA
STATES CHAMP
