Nevada State Championships Tournament Report
2000-04-09:
We had 10 Players show up for some intense victories as well as
defeats. With only 2 days before the Tournament here in Las Vegas,
the players did not have much time to revamp their decks, however
those that did get lucky enough to order some through the Internet
were more than ready. I will say this, "It never fails, the
Local Meta is always determined by the number one players in town,
and it looks as if our State Champ himself may be setting the
show here by forcing everyone here to make decks to counter his".
This can be good, because it makes weaker players into stronger
players. Now, can the State Champ hold his own at the Grand Slam
Event coming up? What was prominent you wondering?
Well, Queens still filled
gloriously the Green spot, with Handmaidens following right being
them in the blue spot. Effects showed themselves up to even counter
these deck types. From my observation and the deck list I read,
I don't believe that the players had enough of the effects to
counter the scene.
Gungan decks seemed to
show up, but they couldn't really hold there own against the Maul
decks (Both first and second State Champs had this type of deck.)
Need I say more about the State Champion himself, "Brad Bedlion"
who wiped them out, all of them! He took on a non stop victory
roll with some well balance decks, that looked very similar to
my own. However, at the end game he took his only defeat by Andrew
cole. A dent, but no damage in Brads winning streak. Following
right behind him Is now the 2 time State Championship winner (StarWars
and Young Jedi) Matt Berta.. I read a tournament report earlier
from Mark who I have to agree with, that, "Tanks are not
dead". A matter of fact they are even better now. They may
not be that great on Naboo because of the Gungans, but they can
hold there own on the other two planets. Even a non-true-Tank
deck as I saw in the tournament today can hold it's own.

We can see that Maul was
definitely dominate on the scene, with Obi-Wan, Padme deck in
the forefront also. Senators showed themselves, Battle Droids
tried making an appearance but they just kept falling apart. Here
was an interesting one...Tusken Raiders, these would be awesome
to play if they had more cards to help them out, love those Tuskens.
Then the end of the tournament came and we gave out packs of Jedi
Council to everyone, Subulba Foil, Jar-Jar Foil for last place,
Young Jedi T-shirt, and a StaWars WATER GUN!
Finishing
up....
Jar-Jar decks have a possibility,
careful though, he may fall right into a doubleblade. Queen decks
are still very dominate here, perhaps when everyone has enough
effects in there decks. Neimoidians, they are not so cowardly
in this game. Maul decks are definitely the way to go, but watch
out for those straight up cheap deploy decks and know how to play
this deck. Tuskens, I wouldn't try that deck again, it's just
not viable. Battle Droids, I would not mess with them from my
stand, but there is one in particular which I have grown a liking
to. Who other than the awesome 00M-9! Well that sums up this report
here and don't forget to send an email congratulating the top
two Nevada State Champions, Brad
Bedlion & Matt
Berta. State Champions decks will be posted one each day under
the Naboo Deck
section.
Till the next tournament,
