"HAVING AN EFFECT ON PLAYERS WORLDWIDE"

Decipher-Con "THE PIT DROIDS" 2000 Tournament Report
2000-12-10:

Well another Decipher-Con has come and gone, but those who went , saw, and played will have memories that will last more than a weekend! For us, the Pit Droids (Avery Poliak, Brad Bedlion, Chris Hines, and Patrick Hines), sunday was a day to remember. Here is how it all unfolded. The begining to this great day was not what I would call a red letter day. We slept in till 9:10 which wasn't exactly what we wanted to do. My light side deck wasn't even finnished and all 4 of us didn't have our deck lists completed. To make things worse we still had to do our last minute packing so we could check out! Pat and Chris go down to the lobby and check out while Avery and I finnished up our deck lists. The tournament was suposed to start about 10:00 am, but fortunately for us Iwas delayed till 10:30 due to people filling out our deck lists.

Game one finnaly started and I was paired against this woman ( sorry but I forgot her name). She was a LS queens and senators deck which wasn't a kind of deck I was exspecting to see at all. I was playing my DS "Frankenstien" deck and was very confident starting with it. My starting hand was a little better than average but I got no weapons. I ended up playing a blue dot tank and the Sando Aqua Monster effect my first turn. I then drew up and low and behold I got enhanced Maul and his double stick. Second turn I deployed then and took the planet with ease. The next planet she choose was Naboo which was one of the two planets she was deared to dominate. She deployed 3 Queen's and 3 Amidala's blasters and I let her have the planet, but not before I evacuated myMaul off of Tatooine. So It came down to a showdown in the senate. I was able to deploy a Aurra Sing and a blaster rifle on the first turn and drew up. She played 3 cards and evened. I fliped over and added another Enhanced Maul along with a probe droid. She flipped over 2 wookiee senators and then deployed a naboo Queen and another wookiee senator. She then battled with 2 battle plans. I also had one to play. I set up my battle plan and had Aurra up front with a Opee Sea Killer, a probe droid, then Maul w/ blaster rifle she had a wookiee senator up front with a Negotiations battle plan and we tied. Then her queen killed my probe droid. The next pair was my Maul w/ blaster rifle. She played Yousa Guys Bombad with the remaining two senators (in case you are wondering they were power 5). I called over the judge and because yousa Guys can only work with stackable characters and not with non-unique characters. So it is Maul w/ blaster rifle vs. a lone wookiee senator, and guess what I draw a 3!!!, if I had not questioned the illegal play I would have lost Maul!!! The next turn I throw down 2 anti-queen Nutes and I match perfectly against her battle plan and take the planet by 28.

Full Win - 2(28)
Avery, Chris , and Pat also won their games for a team record of 4-0 first game.

Game two was against James Lafferty who was playing a Maul deck vs. my Boys are back in town v.2.1. This game was a hard fought game for me, but luck was on my side. James could only find one weapon for the first two planets, but that first weapon was the doublr stick. In my first battle I sent Anakin in his pod to try to take out Maul but he drew 5 & 6 while I drew 2 & 4. So Ani died but he did get me a Negotiations which I used in the next battle. James didn't have anything else to deploy and battled me for posetion of the planet. I only had Qui-gon w/ a blaster rifle so I gave hin the Negotiations. The match up was Maul w/ double stick vs. Qui-gon w/ +3 and a blaster rifle. Maul drew a 2 & 4 for a total of 13. I drew a 5 for 15 and control of the planet. The next planet was Naboo and this is where I make1 of my 2 mistakes. James deploys theed palace along with Rune and Nute. All I have is a anakin and a Naboo Queen. James deploys more good stuff and I debate whether to forfiet or battle and forfiet. I had 3 Anakins and a Queen. I decide to battle and I take a beating for 8 cards plus the characters. I then forfiet and go to the Capital city where I deploy 2 Padmes that match and by then I also have transported my characters off of both planets and even up. James tried to transport Maul off Tatooine earlier but I shot I down so he deploys another Maul and double stick along with a few other chracters. I got lucky and had enhanced Qui-gon with his stick and a few R2s and Jawas. By the time we battled I had 3 Jawas and 2 R2s along with Qui-gon vs. James Maul and company. James gets the first battle and I manage to miss the big confrontation w/ maul and suffer 4 damage to his 2. then I transport Anakin off of naboo and throw down an Anakin along with another R2 and Jawa. James has about 8 cards in his draw deck when he initiates anothe batle and misses Qui-Gon again. I have him down to 2 cards left to my 6 after that battle. I then make my second big mistake by not realizing that if Maul uses his weapon he is decked in our next battle. I stick Qui-gon in the back because all I am thinking about is over-run and decking him that way.
I win by 2 instead of the possible 14 I should have beaten him by (4 for the damage in the last battle + 8 damage from Naboo batle that didn't need to take place.

Full Win 4(30)
Avery also won while Chris and Pat lost. 6-2 after 2 games.

Game 3 came down to myself not getting a transport, not following my gut and making a unneeded transport attempt that was shot down. I lost by 26

Full loss 4(4)
Avery won keeping us alive while Chris and Pat lost again. 7-5 after 3 games.

Game four was sweet revenge! Jennifer Niana had beaten me in our regional qualifier and it was time for payback. We were even going to the last planet of Coruscant. Have I mentioned that Maul w/ double blade is great , but not when you face it against your own characters. That Maul took out THREE!!! Qui-gons on that planet. Two of them even had Qui-gon's stick. But revenge would be mine! I kept the draw deck full of cards from my two late game transports that made it through successfully. I had Anakin and his pod on the table and I then deployed a JC Padme and another R2 to the capital city with Anakin. I battled and got the battle plan I needed to win the game. R2 got taken out by the other character and that left maul w/ double stick vs Anakin w/ pod and Padme w/ Are you an Angel? Let me tell you something, Padme IS AN ANGEL!!! I defeated maul easily and that decked Jennifer and won myself the game by 9 cards. That win sent me to 3-1 which really helped the team.

Full Win 6(14)
Avery went undefeated with a 8(80) record, Chrish won to go 2-2 and Pat lost and was dropped from our final score. Team total (after drop) 9-3

When the TD's called out the final result I was estatic ! This was my first peice of glass ever. It was a great weekend. Avery placed 9th in the World Finals for YJ. I won a Wild Wild Menace Sealed Deck, Pat won a Wild Wild Menace Sealed deck as well. It was a very nice way to end a perfect weekend of DecipherCon2000.
