"HAVING AN EFFECT ON PLAYERS WORLDWIDE"

Motor-Con YJ Day 2
2000-27-10:

Hey all,

This past week here in Detroit was the Motor City Comic Con, the 3rd largest comic convention in the US. The MCCC is held twice a year, usually in May and October, with the May show being the larger of the two (3 days instead of 2). Guest stars there included Richard LeParmentier (Admiral Motti), and Ethan Phillips (Neelix), as well as several other tv, movie, and comic book
guests. Naturally, there was a group of us there representing Decipher and these games that we all love. Staff included Ambassadors Kim Logie, Dave Bowling, Kevin Markman, and Tim Hunt, Squadron Member Clint Prong, and myself as the only JCM. We also had several non-volunteers on the staff, Alexander Clarkson, Michael Ellingson, and Josiah, Jon, and Ben Burns. I'm pretty sure that was everyone. All in all, the staff did a great job, with some people doing non-stop demos all day, refusing to take a break.

Being October, the con wasn't very big, so the demos and tournaments didn't do as well as our coordinator Kevin Markman (Amb) had hoped. Demos didn't do too bad. YJ was did more demos than both Trek and Wars combined (or so I was told). Oddly enough, the more requested games were Austin Powers, followed closely by Tribbles. It seemed a lot of people were interested in
multi-player party-type games. Unfortunately, we had to turn a few little kids away who wanted to learn AP. They didn't like that PG-13 rating printed on the box. ;-)

As for tournaments, neither of the YJ events got sanctioning. Saturday's Constructed tournament got 5 people, the winner walking away with a complete set of MODM foils. Sunday's BON Sealed Deck tournament didn't get any turnout at all. I'm not too surprised. The fall show doesn't really draw in the gamers like the May show does.

Overall, the Decipher booth did pretty good. I'm really looking forward to the May show. So far, expected Trek guests include Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher), Robert Picardo (EMH), and J.G. Hertzler (Martok). I've also heard rumours that they're trying to get Avery Brooks (Sisko) and Andrew Robinson (Garak), but neither are confirmed. No word on any Wars guests stars yet.

That's all from here!
