Ikari, Yui
Yui is Shinji's late mother. She died mysteriously during a test of Evangelion
Unit 01. Later on in the series however, we find out that she was actually absorbed by Evangelion Unit 01, which is what happened to Shinji earlier in that episode as well. Not to much
is actually said about Yui in the series, but she is Gendou's main interest, and he wants instrumentality so he can see her again.
Shinji has some memories of his mother, but not many, because she died when he was very young...
