"How are the babies?" I asked trying to crane my neck to see them. "They are doing great. Nikki has been here with me to help with them. She even took them back to her place so I could be here with you alone in case you woke up." "I love you." I had nothing else to say but that. As I looked at him the only thing I felt was love. "I love you too. You know after he shot you I didn't know what to do. I sat in here for hours on end, sometimes crying sometimes just staring at you afraid that if I left the room you would go away too. All I thought about for this past week was us and the babies and about how there wasn't any way that you could leave me because you had to be here for the babies. You had to be here with me to watch them grow up and have lives and families of their own. Since you have been in here I have only left this room and the hospital for that matter. I love you with every fiber that is in my soul. You and Maddy and Aiden are my world," He said as he pulled a small box out of his pocket and opened it. Inside was a beautiful gold ring with three diamonds on it. "The man who showed me this ring told me that it stood for the past, the present and the future, but I think it stands for my love, my children now and to come and our new beginning and husband and wife. Will you marry me?" He asked as tears fell down my cheeks. "Yes! Of course I'll marry you." I said as he slid the ring onto my finger and bent down and kissed me. After a few minutes we just sat there as I kept looking at the ring thinking that it was all a dream and the next time I looked it would be gone. "Well I sure am glad to see you up." The doctor said as he walked into the room later on that night. I had called my parents and Hayden called his to tell them about our news. I also called Nikki who rushed over after work to see the ring and took the babies home to give us some time. The only thing that was missing was that I couldn't call Justin and tell him. A part of me wanted to forget I ever knew him, but larger part of me wanted to call him and tell him Hayden and I would be getting married. "When can I get out of here?" I asked as I sat up in the bed. Hayden had helped me sit up so I wouldn't be laying down constantly. "Well you'll need to remain here for a few more days to make sure you don't become infected. Staff infection is very easy to get and very hard to get rid of. Your test results are back?" He said as he waved a manila folder in front of him. "What tests?" I asked "Just precautionary test to ensure your heath. Blood tests, things like that." He said as he sat down in the chair across from Hayden. "Well everything is fine right?" Hayden asked as he leaned forward towards the doctor. "Well you are perfectly healthy but we did find something." He said as he looked back and forth between the two of us. "What is it?" We both asked at the same time. "Well were the bullet hit it was really close to your uterus and at first I thought we were going to have to do a vasectomy but was relieved to see that it missed it by 5 millimeters. So we ran tests to make sure you would in fact be able to conceive children after the operation and that was when we found it. You are going to have a baby. You're pregnant!" |
