Chapter 1 - The Beginning…

They say it's like a bomb hitting you when your parents say
they're splitting up. Imagine how you'd feel if you'd already lost a
father to cancer and now you were losing another. Well, that's how
Sam felt. It had only been a year since he went to stay with his
father to build a perfect house in place of his shack. It had only
been nine months since he had seen his mother return; her tear
stained cheeks confirmed his worst fears and he realised his father
had died. Then his mother divorced his second father and he was alone
again. Sam was glad he'd mended his ways or else he feared he would
have taken his life. As he lay on the grass outside his house he
realised how much he owed both his fathers. He owed his being, his
life, to his real father aswell as his drug free lifestyle. To his
step father he owed his strength and sanity through the after math of
his true father's death. Sam rolled over as the breeze wafted through
his jet black hair. His mind wandered to Alyssa, it had been three
months since they had split up but they remained good friends. She
phoned every so often to see how he was and fill him in on the young
girl he'd given the house to. His little day dream was abruptly ended
by his mum pulling up in the driveway. She got out the car and opened
the boot. Sam scrambled to his feet and strolled over to her,

"Need some help?" Robin smiled as Sam grabbed two grocery bags from
the back of the car and walked inside with them; her boy had grown up
so well. He'd coped better than all of them through this tough time.
How was she going to tell him she'd met another man? She followed him
inside,

"Sam sit down a moment would you?" Sam glanced over at her from the
counter,

"What's wrong mom?" Robin patted the seat next to her. Sam cautiously
put down the tomatoes and edged towards her before sitting down.
Robin hated what she was about to do.

"Sam, you know that you, Adam and Ryan are the most important things
in my life." Sam shuffled in his seat, "Sam, I've met someone." She
noticed Sam's knuckles clench the sofa arm. "I'm sorry…"

"Why should you be sorry? Good for you. Congratula…" his voice
cracked, "I'm gonna go for a shower." Robin held his hand,

"Sam, please. They're coming around tonight." Sam turned around,

"They?" Robin nodded, "Whose they?" Robin sighed,

"They are John and his daughter, April. Please, I know it's tough on
you but… just please." Sam shrugged his shoulder and nodded,

"Okay." Robin hugged him,

"Now help me unpack and cook dinner."
