John Smith's: Valentine's Day

There were some pub outlets however which wouldn't run simple advertising and insisted on promotions. Nevertheless we managed to keep our "No Nonsense" cred by keeping our tongues firmly in our cheeks with this campaign.

Contestants had to fill in a form in the shape of a rose in a plant pot. I met a few of the winners. The men were generally very happy, the women... less sure.

Other promotions included the "John Smith's Clothes Line", which gave away a new line of John Smith's clothes, T-Shirt, shorts and socks to successive John Smith's drinkers. The poster showed these as an actual clothes line, with the No Nonsense Man pegged up alongside the clothing. The T-Shirt didn't even feature a logo, just the NNM's face in a splash, with the words NEW YORK * MILAN * PARIS * TADCASTER.
