The rural family-drama series Everwood, due to be broadcast on The WB beginning Sept. 16, is already generating controversy before it hits the air. TV Guide reported on its website today (Wednesday) that during the premiere episode, in a confrontation between the father, played by Treat Williams, and his teenage son, played by Gregory Smith, the boy calls his dad "a dick." In reporting on the scene, TV Guide, commented: "For a show being billed as the perfect Monday night companion to 7th Heaven, the expletive is sure to have some viewers -- read: parents -- reaching for their Dial." A spokesman for the network told TV Guide: "Within the context of the episode, we determined that it was appropriate to use." |
