Audioslave - Audioslave (2002)

The Good
I had been curious about this project since it was first announced that Chris Cornell would step in and sing with the remaining members of Rage Against the Machine. I really expected (or at least hoped for) something more than just Chris Cornell singing for Rage Against the Machine. In reality, most of this has more of a “Tom Morello playing in Soundgarden” feel to it, which is a good thing. It isn’t the pissed off political stuff that RAtM were famous for, but a mellower collection of songs. Cornell seems to sing more without some of the harsher vocals that I didn't like about earlier Soundgarden.

The Bad
The album is pretty good, but it is a little more laid-back than I was expecting. None of the songs really stand out though. There really isn’t anything really bad about it, it just isn’t as good as it could (and should) have been.

The Packaging
The lyrics are included and the cover reminds me of Anthrax’s Stomp 442 cover.

Bottom Line
Not as good as the hype would lead you to believe, although that would have been virtually impossible to do. Still, this is a pretty good rock album that Cornell fans should be sure not to miss.
