Iced Earth - Horror Show (2001)

The Good
While not a strict concept album, Horror Show is a collection of songs that are inspired by the classic monster movies.  Wolf and Damien start off and are my favorites.  None of the other songs really grabbed me that much.  They aren't bad, just not that memorable

The Bad
The Ghost of Freedom
is a ballad dedicated to those who serve in the U.S. military.  It is a pretty good song, but it feels very out of place in the monster setting.  There is nothing really wrong or bad about this one, but it is a little generic.  It certainly isn't one of Iced Earth's best.

The version of Horror Show that I bought has a second cd with a cover of Iron Maiden's Transylvania and an interview with Jon Schaffer.  I have listened to it once, but there is no reason to hear it again.  The cover brings nothing new and the interview is just barely worth the one listen.

The Packaging
The booklet has a very nice picture of each monster depicted to go along with the lyrics for the song.

Bottom Line
If you are already an Iced Earth fan, you will probably want to pick this one up.  If you are curious about the band, I would suggest getting Burnt Offerings or Something Wicked This Way Comes first.
