    Goodbye England's rose;
may you ever grow in our hearts.

You were the grace that placed itself
    where lives were torn apart.

You called out to our country,
and you whispered to those in pain.

    Now you belong to heaven,
and the stars spell out your name.

And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind:
    never fading with the sunset
    when the rain set in.

And your footsteps will always fall here,
    along England's greenest hills;
your candle's burned out long before
    your legend ever will.

    Loveliness we've lost;
these empty days without your smile.

    This torch we'll always carry
    for our nation's golden child.

    And even though we try,
    the truth brings us to tears;
    all our words cannot express
the joy you brought us through the years.

    Goodbye England's rose,
from a country lost without your soul,
who'll miss the wings of your compassion
    more than you'll ever know.'

    Candle In The Wind

    Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
    While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
    When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
    Your legend ever did

    Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
    Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
    Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

    Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something as more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe

    Circle Of Life

From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to be seen than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done

Some say eat or be eaten
Some say Live and let live
But all are agreed as they join the stampede
You should never take more than you give

    CHORUS:
    In the circle of life
    It's the wheel of fortune
    It's the leap of faith
    It's the band of hope
    Till we find our place
    On the path unwinding
In the circle, in the circle of life

Some of us fall by the wayside
And some of us soar to the stars
And some of us sail through our troubles
And some have to live with the scars

There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
    But the sun rolling high
    Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round

    CHORUS REPEATS

    Honky Cat

When I look back boy I must have been green
Bopping in the country, fishing in a stream
Looking for an answer trying to find a sign
Until I saw your city lights honey I was blind

They said get back honky cat
Better get back to the woods
Well I quit those days and my redneck ways
And oh the change is gonna do me good

You better get back honky cat
Living in the city ain't where it's at
It's like trying to find gold in a silver mine
It's like trying to drink whisky from a bottle of wine

Well I read some books and I read some magazines
About those high class ladies down in New Orleans
And all the folks back home well, said I was a fool
They said oh, believe in the Lord is the golden rule

They said stay at home boy, you gotta tend the farm
Living in the city boy, is going to break your heart
But how can you stay, when your heart says no
How can you stop when your feet say go

    Crocodile Rock

I remember when rock was young
Me and Suzie had so much fun
    holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were Rocking Round the Clock
we were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock

Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
when your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
when Suzie wore her dresses tight
and the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight

But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they'll never kill the thrills we've got
burning up to the Crocodile Rock
Learning fast as the weeks went past
we really thought the Crocodile Rock would last

    Levon

Levon wears his war wound like a crown
    He calls his child Jesus
    'Cause he likes the name
And he sends him to the finest school in town

    Levon, Levon likes his money
He makes a lot they say
    Spend his days counting
In a garage by the motorway

He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
    And the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today

    And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
    And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan
    And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man
    He shall be Levon

Levon sells cartoon balloons in town
    His family business thrives
Jesus blows up balloons all day
Sits on the porch swing watching them fly

And Jesus, he wants to go to Venus
    Leaving Levon far behind
Take a balloon and go sailing
    While Levon, Levon slowly dies

He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said God is dead
    And the war's begun
Alvin Tostig has a son today

    Pinball Wizard

Ever since I was a young boy I played the silver ball
From Soho down to Brighton I must have played them all
But I ain't seen nothing like him in any amusement hall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball

He stands like a statue, becomes part of the machine
Feeling all the bumpers, always playing clean
Plays by intuition, the digit counters fall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball

He's a pinball wizard, there has to be a twist
A pinball wizard's got such a supple wrist
How do you think he does it? I don't know
    What makes him so good?

Ain't got no distractions, can't hear no buzzes or bells
Don't see lights a-flashing, plays by sense of smell
Always gets a replay, never seen him fall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball

I thought I was the Bally table king
But I just handed my pinball crown to him

Even on my favourite table, he can beat my best
His disciples lean him in and he just does the rest
He's got crazy flipper fingers, never seen him fall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball

    Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting

It's getting late have you seen my mates
Ma tell me when the boys get here
It's seven o'clock and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys
And my old lady she don't care
My sister looks cute in her braces and boots
A handfull of grease in her hair

Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
    Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action 'round here

Get about as oiled as a diesel train
    Gonna set this dance alight
'Cause Saturday night's the night I like
    Saturday night's alright alright alright

Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out "She's with me!"

A couple of the sounds that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
I'm a juvenile product of the working class
whose best friend floats in the bottom of a glass

    The B*tch Is Back

I was justified when I was five
Raising cane, I spit in your eye
Times are changing, now the poor get fat
But the fever's gonna catch you when the bitch gets back

Eat meat on Friday that's alright
Even like steak on a Saturday night
I can bitch the best at your social do's
I get high in the evening sniffing pots of glue

    I'm a bitch, I'm a bitch
    Oh the bitch is back
Stone cold sober as a matter of fact
I can bitch, I can bitch
    'Cause I'm better than you
It's the way that I move
    The things that I do

    I entertain by picking brains
Sell my soul by dropping names
I don't like those, my God, what's that
Oh it's full of nasty habits when the bitch gets back

    Your Song

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

    Philadelphia Freedom

I used to be a rolling stone
You know if the cause was right
I'd leave to find the answer on the road
I used to be a heart beating for someone
    But the times have changed
The less I say the more my work gets done

'Cause I live and breathe this Philadelphia freedom
From the day that I was born I've waved the flag
Philadelphia freedom took me knee-high to a man
Yeah gave me peace of mind my daddy never had

Oh Philadelphia freedom shine on me, I love you
Shine a light through the eyes of the ones left behind
Shine a light shine a light
Shine a light won't you shine a light
Philadelphia freedom I love you, yes I do

If you choose to you can live your life alone
    Some people choose the city
Some others choose the good old family home
I like living easy without family ties
Till the whippoorwill of freedom zapped me
    Right between the eyes

    Musicals

    Agony, from Into the Woods

    Cinderella's Prince
    Did I abuse her
    Or show her disdain?
Why does she run from me?
    If I should lose her,
    How shall i regain
The heart she has won from me?

    Agony!
    Beyond pwer of speech,
When the one thing you want
Is the only thing out of your reach.

    Rapunzel's Prince
    High in her tower,
    She sits by the hour,
    Maintaining her hair.
    Blithe and becoming,
    and frequently humming
    A lighthearted air:
    Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-

    Agony!
    Far more painful than yours,
When you know she would go with you
    If there only were doors.

    Both
    Agony!
    Oh, the torture they teach!

    Rapunzel's Prince
    What's an intriguing?

    Cinderella's Prince
    Of half so fatiguing?

    Both
    As what's out of reach?

    Cinderella's Prince
    Am i not sensitive,
    Clever,
    Well-mannered,
    Considerate,
    Passionate,
    Charming,
    As kind as I'm handsome
    And heir to a throne?

    Rapunzel's Prince
You are everthing maiden's could wish for!

    Cinderella's Prince
    Then why no?

    Rapunzel's Prince
    Do i know?

    Cinderella's Prince
    The girl must be mad!

    Rapunzel's Prince
    You know nothing of madness
    Till you're climbing her hair
And you see her up there
    As you're nearing her,
    All the while hearing her:
    Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-

    Both
    Agony!

    Cinderella's Prince
    Misery!

    Rapunzel's Prince
    Woe!

    Both
    Though it's different for each.

    Cinderella's Prince
    Always ten steps behind

    Rapunzel's Prince
    Always ten steps below

    Both
And she's just out of reach.
    Agony!
That can cut like a knife!

I must have her to wife

    Hello, Little Girl

    Wolf
    Good day, young lady.

    Hello, Little Girl

    Good day, Mr. Wolf.

    Wolf
    Mmmh...
    Unhh..
    Look at that flesh,
    Pink and plump.
    Hello, little girl...

    This one's especially lush,
    Delicious...
    Mmmh...
    Hello little girl,
    what's your rush?
    You're missing all the flowers.
The sun won't set for hours,
    Take your time.

    Little Red
    Mother said, "Straight ahead."
    Not to delay
    Or be misled.

    Wolf
    But slow little girl,
    Mark! and hush-
    The birds are singing sweetly
    You'll miss the birds completely,
    You're traveling so fleetly.
    Grandmother first,
    The Miss Plump...
    What a delectable couple.
    Utter perfection-
    One brittle, one supple-
    One moment, me dear-!

    Little Red
    Mother said, "come what may,
Follow the path and never stray."

    Gee, Officer Krupke

    KRUPKE
    (spoken)
    Hey, you!

    A-RAB
    (spoken)
    Who me?

    KRUPKE
    (spoken)
    Yeah, you!

    A-RAB
    (spoken)
Why it is Officer Krupke, Baby John.

    BABY JOHN
    (spoken)
Top of the evening, Officer Krupke.

    KRUPKE
    (spoken)
I'll crack the top of your skulls if you
punks don't stop when I whistle.

    SNOWBOY
    (spoken)
Ya see, cops believe everything they
    read in the papers.

    ACTION
    (spoken)
To them we ain't human. We're cruddy
juvenile delinquents. So that's what we give 'em.

    SNOWBOY(imitating Krupke)
    (spoken)
    Hey, you!

    ACTION
    (spoken)
    Me, Officer Krupke?

    SNOWBOY
    (spoken)
Yeah, you! Gimme one good reason
for not dragging ya down the station house, ya
    punk.

    ACTION
    Dear kindly Sergeant Krupke,
    You gotta understand,
    It's just our bringin' up-ke
That gets us out of hand.
    Our mothers all are junkies,
    Our fathers all are drunks.
    Golly Moses, natcherly we're punks!

    ACTION and QUARTET
    Gee, Officer Krupke, we're very upset;
We never had the love that every child oughta get.
    We ain't no delinquents,
    We're misunderstood.
Deep down inside us there is good!

    ACTION
    There is good!

    ALL
There is good, there is good,
    there is untapped good.
Like inside, the worst of us is good.

    SNOWBOY (imitating Krupke)
    (spoken)
    That's a touchin'
    good story.

    ACTION
    (spoken)
Lemme tell it to the world!

    SNOWBOY ("Krupke")
    (spoken)
Just tell it to the judge.

    ACTION
    Dear kindly Judge, your Honor,
    My parents treat me rough.
    With all their marijuana,
They won't give me a puff.
    They didn't wanna have me,
    But somehow I was had.
Leapin' lizards, that's why I'm so bad!

    DIESEL ("Judge")
    Right!
    Officer Krupke, you're really a square;
This boy don't need a judge, he needs an
    analyst's care!
It's just his neurosis that oughta be curbed.
    He's psychologic'ly disturbed!

    ACTION
    I'm disturbed!

    ALL
    We're disturbed, we're disturbed,
    We're the most disturbed,
    Like we're psychologic'ly disturbed.

    DIESEL ("Judge")
    (spoken)
In the opinion of this court, this child
is depraved on account he ain't had a
    normal home.

    ACTION
    (spoken)
Hey, I'm depraved on account I'm
    deprived!

    DIESEL ("Judge")
    (spoken)
So take him to a headshrinker.

    ACTION
    My father is a bastard,
    My ma's an S.O.B.
    My grandpa's always plastered,
    My grandma pushes tea.
    My sister wears a mustache,
    My brother wears a dress.
    Goodness gracious, that's why I'm a mess!

    A-RAB ("Psychiatrist")
    Yes!
Officer Krupke, you're really a slob.
This boy don't need a doctor, just a good honest
    job.
Society's played him a terrible trick,
    Und sociologic'ly he's sick!

    ACTION
    I am sick!

    ALL
We are sick, we are sick,
    We are sick sick sick,
    Like we're sociologically sick!

    A-RAB ("Psychiatrist")
    (spoken)
In my opinion, this child don't need
to have his head shrunk at all. Juvenile
delinquency is purely a social disease!

    ACTION
    (spoken)
Hey, I got a social disease!

    A-RAB ("Psychiatrist")
    (spoken)
So take him to a social worker!

    ACTION
    Dear kindly social worker,
They say go earn a buck,
    Like be a soda jerker,
Which means like be a schmuck.
    It's not I'm anti-social,
    I'm only anti-work.
    Glory Osky, that's why I'm a jerk!

    BABY JOHN ("Social Worker")
    Eek!
Officer Krupke, you've done it again.
This boy don't need a job, he needs a year in the
    pen.
    It ain't just a question of misunderstood;
Deep down inside him, he's no good!

    ACTION
    I'm no good!

    ALL
We're no good, we're no good,
    We're no earthly good,
Like the best of us is no damn good!

    DIESEL ("Judge")
    The trouble is he's crazy.

    A-RAB ("Psychiatrist")
    The trouble is he drinks.

    BABY JOHN ("Social Worker")
    The trouble is he's lazy.

    DIESEL ("Judge")
    The trouble is he stinks.

    A-RAB ("Psychiatrist")
    The trouble is he's growing.

    BABY JOHN ("Social Worker")
    The trouble is he's grown.

    ALL
Krupke, we got troubles of our own!

    Gee, Officer Krupke,
    We're down on our knees,
'Cause no one wants a fella with a social
    disease
    Gee, Officer Krupke,
    What are we to do?
    Gee, Officer Krupke,
    Krup you!

If you are white in America!

    Girls:
Here you are free and you have pride!

    Boys:
Long as you stay on your own side.

    Girls:
Free to be anything you choose.

    Boys:
Free to wait tables and shine shoes.

    Bernardo:
    Everywhere crime in America,
    Organized crime in America,
    Terrible time in America..

    Anita:
    You forget I'm in America.

    Bernardo:
I think I go back to San Juan.

    Anita:
I know a boat you can get on!

    Bernardo:
Everyone there will give big cheer!

    Anita:
Everyone there will have moved here.

    The Phantom Of The Opera

    (Christine)
    In sleep
    he sang to me,
    in dreams
    he came...
    that voice
    which calls to me
    and speaks
    my name...

    And do
    I dream again?
    For now
    I find
    the Phantom of the Opera
    is there -
    inside my mind...

    (Phantom)
    Sing once
    again with me
    our strange
    duet...
    My power
    over you
    grows stronger
    yet...

    And though
    you turn from me,
    to glance
    behind,
    the Phantom of the Opera
    is there -
    inside your mind...

    (Christine)
    Those who
    have seen your face
    draw back
    in fear...
    I am
    the mask you wear...

    (Phantom)
    It's me
    they hear...

    (Both)
    Your/my spirit
    and your/my voice,
    in one
combined: the Phantom of the Opera
    is there -
    inside your/my mind...

    (Chorus)
    He's there,
    the Phantom of the Opera...
    Beware
    the Phantom of the Opera...

    (Phantom)
    In all
    your fantasies
    you always
    knew
    that man
    and mystery...

    (Christine)
    ...were both
    in you...

    (Both)
    And in
    this labyrinth,
    where night
    is blind,
    the Phantom of the Opera
    is there/here -
    inside your/my mind...

    (Phantom -spoken-)
    Sing, my Angel of Music!

    (Christine)
    He's there,
    the Phantom of the Opera...
