Listen to the brand new Sidewinder album and you’re not quite sure what year it is. Tangerine (appropriately named) is like a modern day acid flashback with grooves that resemble a stripped back Goldie and psychedelic production techniques that immediately conjure visions of the Beatles and The Beach Boys.
The hallucinogenic sounds of the album opener The Other Side Of Light have been cleverly forged by the band and studio ace Paul McKercher and rival the tones of Radiohead’s OK Computer. Titanic Days, Sidewinder’s contribution to the Blackrock soundtrack, remind us of the Sydney 4 piece’s rock roots. Beyond the paisley there are some good acoustic tracks - acoustic but still bent - such as Sunshine In A Pocket. Tangerine will take you for one hell of a trip and once you’re on, there’s no getting off. You’re in for the ride of your life.
