To start off, this game caught my attention ever since the originals were out for the Playstation 1. What makes this version such a delightful experience is all the great anime mechs that make you say "OH MY GOD! I remember him doing that!" and "YO!! He's in this game too??!!". The game contains characters and mobile suit mechs from very popular japanese animes such as Gundam, Super Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, and Evangelion. It has a nice solid tactics/RPG game play. Although its only available in japanese, its worth a try.

I think Gravadel hit the nail on the head when he said: "Well, let's put it this way: do you like beautifully animated mechs pounding away at each other with gorgeous eye candy, while their pilots scream out their attacks? Do you like watching robot anime, no matter how silly some of them are? Do you like solid strategy gaming, employing all sorts of tactics to finish a game 100 stages long that will take you 1 hour each stage (if you're a newbie)? Do you like finding secrets, requiring ridiculous amounts of trials and errors to get? Then this game is for you!"

Welcome all to Tomcat's Game World. Today we just got in a new game and its a beauty. Its one of Japan's best selling series and this is the first time its on PS2. Super Robot Taisen Impact made by Banpresto brings together mechs from many different robot type shows and combines them together for one big story line. The robots in this game are super deformed but that is not a bad thing. Its a good thing! Watching the animation of the super deformed robots doing their custom attacks will leave you begging for more.
Each mech comes with a couple of attacks not to mention the abilty to team up with other mechs and perform double and triple team attacks. This game plays like Front Mission 3. For those that haven't played it or not to sure they remember, I'll quick run this game by you. You and your enemies are placed on a grid. Each side takes turns moving their robots around the environment to attack. Basically, your side will move first until each robot has a chance to move and/or attack. Then when your side has completed its action, its the computer turn to go. When the computer finishes its turn, it switches back to you. It keeps going on until one side wipes the other out or completes a certain objective. When 2 mechs go into battle, a menu pops up and your given the choice of what attack/counter-attack, guard/dodge that you want to attempt. After you pick your choices the battle changes into a cutscene. This is where the game will shock you. You'll watch your mechs pull off some insane attacks. Each mechs has its strong and weak points just like in the animes they were in. Watching the many and I mean many cutscenes that are in the game will leave you with seizures. If you don't mind the cartoon type approach and a slow start at the beginning of the game, you'll be richly rewarded later in the game when your mechs strike back. I gave this game a 9.5 out of 10!! These are the type of games that you won't see in america because of the small base of fans that know these types of mechs and what animes they come from. Even if don't know where these mechs are from and you play imported games, give this one a try if you like strategy base games. Over a million japanese fans can't be wrong!!!
