EvilNET Battletech League
SEASON SIX

Welcome to the new home of the EvilNET Battletech League (EBL).

Today was the start of the EBL, but it was also a day of mourning for a nation, and the world. The Shuttle Columbia was destroyed on re-entry this morning and the crew was lost. Let us keep the families of the crew in our prayers and continue reaching for the stars. Rest in Peace Columbia Crew.

I would like to first thank Dave for allowing me to take on the responsibility of running the EBL. With a little guidance from Dave I hope to make Season 5 one of the best to date. As you can see I have moved the EBL to Yahoo's Geocities to take advantage of the free webspace provided. While this was not the first option we would have chosen, it was necessary. I do not see any problems with this and hope this allows us to keep the EBL functioning.

As you can see the EBL Battle Report Form has changed a little. Space is now provided in the old Comments field to allow you to list the Force Composition in the battle. While this is not necessary, I will be saving this information and posting it at the end of the season so everyone can not only see who lost and won, but what forces fought the battle. At any time players can look at the Battle Database and refight any battle.

I would now like to welcome Rick Raisley as the newest sponsor in the EBL. His fantastic
Heavy Metal programs have allowed players to design Battlemechs, Vehicles and Protomechs for their Battletech games. The newest addition to the Heavy Metal family, Heavy Metal Aero, has recently been completed and is finding its way into the hands of players around the world. Lets us hope that Rick continues devoloping his successful series of programs for Battletech for many years to come.

For those visiting for the first time let me tell you a little about the EBL. The EBL runs three season per year. Each season consists of a 8 week regular season and an 8 week playoff tournament. The seasons run from February - May, June - September and October - Janurary. There are three divisions of competition and the top players from each receive prizes from out sponsors. The EBL has been operating since 1999. If you wish to learn more about the EBL hostory then click the link on the sidebar to the left.
Singles Division
Battles will be ranked from February 1st to midnight March 28th. The top 8 players with the most points on March 29th will be invited to enter into a free, double elimination tournament where the following prizes will be competed for: Rick Raisleys Heavy Metal Vee Program, a $30 Gamers Union credit, a $20 Gamer's Union Credit, 3 Miniature paintjobs from  The Mini Factory (Ross_Koga), 1 Mini/Paint Job from The Mini Factory (SalCrump), $25 Gift Certificate from RAMF Minitures & Games, manufacturere of the BattleHex Terrain System, 5 Player Selected Decal Sheets from Fighting Pirannah Graphics, and the Prize Lot. The EBL is off to a great start. We have over 100 registered players, past and present, that will be battling for a chance to get into the playoffs. So far both Wiggles and Bear are in a contest to see which can get more games the fastest, and both are racking up a pretty impressive win total. I wonder who is going to be the one to knock them off their winning streaks.

In other news Megamek versions 28.1 and up seem to have several bugs that are being worked on. I recommend using 28.0 until a version is available that gets those nasty buggers fixed. I will monitor the MegaMek forums and let everyone know if a new and improved version becomes available.

First I want to say ... WOW. The first two weeks of Season 5 League battles have been like no other. We have had more games played these first two week than the entire first half of Season 4. Players are fighting, and fighting hard, for standings in the top 8 seats. I would like to thank all of you for the enthuaseasiam and passion you have put into the games you have played this season. It is because of this that the EBL is a continued success.

The latest release of MegaMek (28.5) looks like it is a very stable version for play. I recommend everyone download it and use it for playing. Make sure to go to the MegaMek website and read up on all the changes that have been made to the game so you will not be surprised by a more knowlegable opponent.

I would like to congratulate Kaliyama on his impressive 11 game winning streak. I am pretty sure it is the most impressive winning streak by any player in the EBL, past and present. How long that streak will last depends on all the other players out there. Plan your battle well and you could be the one that puts his winning madness to an end!

EBL Business - I need everyone to make sure they report their battles correctly and in a timely fashion. I have made changes to the Battle Reporting Form to make this easier. This helps me keep track of the battles and ensure the Singles Division standings are correct. If anyone see a mistake in the standings please email me and we will get it straightened out.

I also want to plant a bug in your thoughts. I am thinking about the EBL having both Bloodname and Gunslinger Tournaments. This probably will not get off the ground until Season 7 or 8, but I want to know who is interested in this, and how many of you would participate.
Battles have slowed down a little the last week, but once again the pace is picking up. We only have 19 days left to battle and several players have reached their limit in matches. That means everyone else has the chance to fight, win matches and beat their scores! Talamar, Dave, TheFoo and CSS_Jarod are all climbing the ranks, with both Talamar and Dave striving to break into the top 8 spots. The #8 spot only has 5 points, and anyone with a good winning streak can easily break into the playoffs before March 31st at midnight. Lets get the battles rolling!

Anyone that has been in the EBL for awhile will notice the EBL History page has had a major facelift. Special thanks goes out to Aly for all her hard work making the images for the new look. Aly is still working on many images for the EBL and I look forward to giving all the pages of the EBL a fresh and new look.

EBL Business - OK players ..... I have made sure the Battle Reporting Form is very easy to use. If you do not use this form I have no way to properly maintain the singles rankings. I understand that sometimes you forget to report a battle, but there are some players that do not report on a regular basis. I am asking again for you to make a better effort to report your battles. As the EBL continues to grow I will have to get very strict with the rule about reporting a battle. It takes time to update the standings accurately and I will not have the time in the future to track down players for not reporting a battle (plus it is not fair to players that do report their battles). So lets make these last 19 days a little easier on me so I can make regular updates to the Singles Ranking Page. Thank You.

Last night was the last night of regular season games, and what a night it was. I want to thank everyone who participated, and I want to congradulate CSS Herod, Jerry Meander, Kaliyama, Wiggles, LUke, Ian Davion, TheFoo and Nimbuswolf for making it into the top 8 spots and the Playoffs! The season was definately one for the books! We had an amazing 26 games played in the last 24 hours of the season, a record that will stand for a long time.

Now that the season is over with I am going to have some fun with the League's participants. I am going to head over to the various Battletech websites that have message forums and issue an open ended challenge for them to form a team of 4 players. Once I get all the teams together we will have a double elimination tournament to determine who is the winner. Nothing like some good ole fashion fun between the websites for bragging rights on who is has the best players! I will be posting rules about this in the next couple weeks so keep an eye out.

This week will be the "bye" week for the Playoffs to give everyone a break to regroup. If everyone looks at the Playoff Schedule they will see the times they are to play their games. Because of the change in the schedule there will be a full week for each round of the playoffs. This will allow the participants more time to set up and play their battles. Battle size is up to you guys, but lets remember the timetable so we can keep everything flowing smoothly.

EBL Business - After much discussion with Dave we have decided to change the start of Season 6 to July 1st. This change will allow players who attend school to have time during the summer and winter breaks for regular season play. This also takes the playoffs away from those school breaks and makes playoff scheduling easier (players not being gone on vacations their parents planned). Let me know what you all think about this.
Season 5 was a fantastic season, but we went down a little in player participation (39 players in Season 4 and only 36 players this Season). What I need from everyone is to help get the word out there about the EBL. I want to open the Team Division and Solaris Division back up, but we need 70 - 100 players actively participating to allow this too happen. I am also trying to get sponsorship for those Divisions, but I need to be able to show participation is growing to do that. So lets get out there and spread the word about the great league we have and get the people in here playing! I want Season 6 to have at least 60 players!

1st EvilNET Battletech League WebTeam Tournament

After taking a break from the grind of the EBL regular season and getting the playoffs together I have gone out and invited all the websites with message boards to for a team for a single elimination tournament. Each website may have two teams and each team may be either a Inner Sphere Lance or a Clan Star in size. These teams wil then battle it out for the title of "EvilNET WebTeam Champions"

RULES

1.) The units Battle Value (BV) must be in the range of 8,500 points, +/- 150 points (8,350 to 8,650 points total) after pilot skills are factored in.  Each Lance/Star must be submitted to me (Highball) to have the final BV verified (EBL@tampabay.rr.rom)
2.) Each Lance/Star may have no pilot better than 2/2 and no worse the 4/5.
3.) Each Lance/Star may choose any combination of Mechs, Vehicles and Battlearmor but no variant may be used more than once (except Battlearmor), and only two units of each weight class may be picked (except vehicles which may have 3 of a particular weight class). So a unit may not have three Heavy Mechs and one Light Mech or four Heavy Vehicles.
4.) There will be no mixed tech units. Inner Sphere forces may have no more than 4 units and Clan forces may have not more than 5 units.
5.) Each Lance/Star must have at least two players on that team, and those two players may not be on another team.
6.) The game will be played using MegaMek, and if no one can host a particular game then I (Highball) will host the game if possible.
7.) The maps for the battle will be set to "surprise" and the battlefield will be 2x2 maps. Double Blind and Floating Crits will be set to "ON"
8.) All other EBL rules apply.
The playoffs are finally over and I would like to thank all the players for a memorable season! Congradulations to the Grand Champion Jerry Meander and the Runner-Up Wiggles. Now I take a brief break and then we start a brand new season on July 1st. I want everyone to go out there and bring a friend to play in the EBL this season. Our goal is to have anywhere from 70 to 100 players, and I think that is possible with everyones help. IF we can get this kind of player participation I am looking into opening two new events in Season 7 .... The Gunslingers Tournament and a Bloodname Tournament. But that is up to us, so lets get the players into the league and playing!
Now for anyone joining the EBL this season I want you to take advantage of a new email address I have set up specifically for us. Anyone needing to contact me may do so at EBL@tampabay.rr.com. This will allow all the players to more easily contact me with concerns, problems or ideas.
On a personal note I want everyone to know I just moved into my very first home with my wife of almost exactly 1 year. Its a fixer-upper, but it is ours. As a result I am selling quite a bit of my Battletech minis, many of which are old Unseen minis and even some older Battledroid minis mixed in. Anyone wanting to take a peek at what I am selling just search for my EBay ID, highball32.
