Chapter One - First Sight and Irresistable Scent | ||||||||
I was bored after Nickolas, Gabrielle, and I had just moved into this new neighborhood the other day and after getting my stuff situated for the most part to my new room, I decided on a walk. I wanted to see what this new town was going to have since it was smaller to most cities we had lived in the past several years. It was nighttime but that didn't stop me. In fact, it was just what I needed to keep hidden from prying eyes at the moment while I used my speed to get to places. Looking through the neighborhood I'd moved into, I found it rather quiet with nothing interesting going on for the most part. Pretty much everyone was sleeping since it was a Sunday night and school was also just starting. So I decided to head to the south to see more for the moment. I passed by a rather large park with a nice creek flowing through it and lots of trees to go back and hide within while I crossed it so I could remain hidden. I had to jump the fence, though it was rather easy, and crossed the golf course that partially ran along the southern edge of the park. Still I headed south and came upon the airport and a nice looking mobile home park. Cutting my way through there to the other side, I saw a corner store still open late that night and a sign pointing the way to another park. I wondered it if was as big as the park I'd gone through earlier so I followed down the street the way the sign pointed and found another and followed it as well to the parking lot by a baseball diamond with an open field going to the south towards basketball courts, a playground, and another parking lot beyond a patch of trees on either side of the pathway. To my east in front of my sight where I could hear frogs croaking along the creek to my left by the parking lot into the woods, I decided to head into them. I found a nature trail ofsorts though I decided to cut through and go through off the path too and explore a bit. It was quite peaceful here with the wind a very light breeze as I roamed silently around the dark trees. Suddenly the wind blew from behind me gently carrying on it the scent of a human nearby. The scent was like no other and it hit my senses like a sledgehammer, for lack of better words. It was so sweet smelling and I immediately turned in its direction scanning through the darkness with my black eyes, the hunger knotting my stomach up and the hunter side of myself on full alert. It wanted to seek out this mouthwatering scent and devour all the sweet smelling blood from the poor human's body. Swiftly moving silently through the trees in the direction of the mouthwatering scent, I stopped along the pathway I'd come up to with a break in the trees, the moon's silver light coming down to light up the figure of a young girl about my age in appearance as she turned her light blue eyes towards me. She looked at me like she'd seen a ghost but I quickly moved in a blur of speed behind her a little closer but upwind of her. She had taken a step back and turned to find me behind her and again that wide eyed look like she'd seen a ghost. I tried to get a reading on what was going through her mind but for some reason all I got was a soft hum like I normally got from everyone if I wasn't concentrating on any particular person but neither shutting them all out either. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as she turned and bolted away from me and into the woods. 'Great Kieran. You just scared her,' I thought to myself as I, slowly for my kin, headed after her following that irresisible scent of hers. I still wanted to taste it badly, my stomach still knotted, but I didn't want to cause trouble the first day we had just finally moved in and have to move away again. Keeping on her trail easily, I found her glove stuck in some bushes and pulled it out and held it to my nose and smelled it. Her scent sent my mind reeling again and the hunger started to drive me insane. I didn't know what to do about it other than hunt her down as my kind does all across the world in ages past and in ages to the future. I put her glove in my back pocket and followed her remaining scent until I came upon an open grassy area wehre she laid on the ground on her back, eyes closed and shaking slightly in fear. I could smell it in her scent and hear her heart pounding too. Her mind was still humming to me and I couldn't get a clear reading of what she was thinking but I sensed she was in pain. Quietly walking towards her, I stopped at her feet and she slowly opened her light blue eyes to look up at me still holding a fear in them. The overpowering of her scent still made my stomach knot and my mind reel but for some reason seeing her in pain kept my mind off the immediate task of wanting to taste her blood. I stared at her in the eyes trying desperately to read what was going through her mind but it was still fuzzy. I'd never had this hapen before and it was odd not to know exactly what she was thinking and feeling clearly. But I could sense she was feeling pain from her ankle so I knelt down and gently picked up her right ankle and pulled off her boot and sock and stuck it in her boot to the side. Placing my cold hands on her ankle, I suddenly got a sense of her feelings more clearly and I could tell that my cool touch was making her ankle feel better a little. Yet I also could sense confusion from her. It wasn't completely clear either but I guessed it was at me for helping her out when I was the one that scared her off in the first place. I glanced up at her again and noticed she too seemed to like the same style of clothing I did, for she had one of my favorite band hoodies from one of my favorite stores, Hot Topic, I was guessing on that looked very large on her small built body. I had to resist from smiling at that. Her raven black hair was showing now that her hood had fallen off probably from her tripping and framed her soft pale elven like face. Those light blue eyes looked at me curiously, guessing that she too was looking at my clothes similar to hers. She looked about eighteen so she was still in school I guessed, though why she was out past midnight on a school night, I couldn't even tell. Sighing mentally to myself, I knew I was going to have to make some sort of wrap for her ankle since it was already pretty swollen and really warm to my touch, so I pulled off my shirt and sliced up the side of it with my thumb nail that was already sharp like a claw so I could make a homemade wrap. It was one of my favorite shirts but luckily I could just go out and buy more. I could still feel her confusion at why I was ripping my own shirt up and gently wrapping it around her ankle before I secured it with a safety pin I happened to remember having in my pocket from earlier that day. I could also feel her staring at me in curiosity still, probably because she'd never seen someone as pale as me even in the moonlight. Sadly I would look a lot more pale in the sunlight but that was all part of being a vampire. Luckily for me, I needn't worry about burning up or any of those myths humans came up with to feel more safe from us. Just some chalky pale white kid who probably didn't spend much time in the sun it seemed to everyone. It worked for me just fine. Suddenly I felt a small wave of guilt come from her before she pulled off her hoodie and held it out to me. "Here," she said in a soft but gentle voice. I couldn't help but blink a moment in surprise before taking it and looked at it a moment. Her scent was coming from it strongly and it was starting to make my mind reel again but I put it on anyways. I guess I was lucky she had gotten an extra large or something so it fit pretty nicely. And it was really warm from her body heat. |
