Chapter One - First Meeting
"Here," I said quietly not looking at him and felt him take it after a moment before glancing to him pulling it over his head.  I was lucky that I'd gotten an extra large despite only needing a medium, and a guy's hoodie at that.  He put the remains of his shirt in the front pocket and handed me my boot with my sock inside before getting up and moving so he kneeled by my side and picked me up easily in his arms as if I was a feather.  I almost dropped my boot in the process as I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck in surprise at being picked up like that since I haven't been picked up that way by anyone really before.  Then he turned and carried me out to the gazebo area without a word while I couldn't help but hold on to him.  He smelled faintly of sandalwood and some cologne that smelled nicely too.
Pausing by the gazebo, he glanced towards the way I came in at and the other parking lot entrance across the large field at the northern end of the park as if he was wondering which way to go.  I realized then I was going to have to tell him where I lived since it seemed he was going to carry me all the way back to my house.  Never had that happen before.
Silently pointing towards the trees and parking lot at the southern end I came in, he nodded slightly and headed silently up to the parking lot where he stopped at the closed gate.  I pointed again out and down the street and he walked easily out and down the sidewalk in the direction I pointed.  It was awkward that I felt safe with him yet also something else I couldn't put my finger on at the moment.  I mean I just met the guy yet I was trusting him to get me home in one piece and not do anything like what my parents always complained and babbled on about with getting kidnapped and who knows what else.  Maybe it was just the pain getting to my head from my ankle.  Either way I showed him right to my driveway where he started for the front door.
"Uh actually do you think you could take me around back?" I asked quietly pointing towards the gate on the garage's side.  He nodded without a word and silently walked across the gravel and I reached out opening the gate with one hand since his hands were full holding me.  He walked around back but stopped before stepping in front of the slider door's area where the light shone from the moon enough to make a reflection and set me down gently on the bench swing seat.
Standing back from me then, he started to pull my hoodie I let him borrow off.  "Uh it's okay," I said a little embarrassed.  "You can hang on to it for now."  He gave a nod as if in okay but I was still unsure why he wouldn't say a word.  It  was then he paused a moment and reached behind his neck and unclasped the necklace he was wearing and knelt down in front of me and started to put it around my neck.  "I...I couldn't take that."
"It's okay," he finallyl spoke up quietly as he finished putting it around my neck and stood back up and looked at me with those dark eyes of his.  "I'm letting you borrow it just like you're letting me borrow your sweatshirt."  His voice was smooth and had somewhat of an accent but I couldn't put my finger on it at the moment.  It was deep but not too deep either.
"Thank you," I said as he helped me up to my feet and turned limping towards the slider door and put my hand up towards the handle to open it.
"No thank you," he replied from behind me.  "Until we meet again."
Turning around as the thought of asking him why he had been out so late came to my mind, I found no one there.  Only the wind shifted a little and I couldn't help but blink confused.  I shrugged thinking that he probably just left without a sound and turned back around and opened the slider silently and stepped through and shut and locked it behind me.  I did the same going into the house and kept silent as possible as I limped slowly up the stairs to my room and changed into my pajamas.
Grabbing a couple of asprin, I sat back on my bottom bunk and got under the covers and laid down a  moment as I ran my hand to the ring he had given me.  I blinked and sat up reaching over to my computer desk next to my bed and grabbed my flashlight and turned it on, pointing it at the ring.  It was a man's styled thicker silver band with a bright red ruby set into it.  It looked like it was really old either way with the way it looked, as if it had been in his family for generations.  I turned the ring so the other half of the silver band showed the name Devereax engraved on it.
'Well that answers half my question of his name,' I thought running my finger along the engraved letters.  'That means the reason for that accent I noticed too.  He French.'  I smlied softly.  'Cool.'
Turning the light off and putting it back on my desk, I laid back down holding the ring in one hand near my heart and closed my eyes.  I felt a strange comfort holding it and found myself very tired and fell asleep quickly.
