Uniting Behind Pacquiao
By: Edwin G. Gonzales
Only a few days left and the nation will decide once more its fate in the next six years. As elections draw nearer each day, division among us Filipinos is even getting clearer with political parties accusing one another. Election-related violence in the countryside continues to hound us on what worse could still happen, comes d-day.
Fortunately, there is another big thing happening for us Filipinos and perhaps the Asian people, on the eve of the elections. This is the much-hyped, long-awaited duel between our own boxing hero, Manny Pacquiao and the Mexican WBA/IBF featherweight king, Juan Manuel Marquez.
If only to show the world that all these negative things about our country are but part only of a normal legitimate political exercise of a growing nation, we must set aside partisan political bickering at least for a moment and tell the world that we can unite, and we are one behind a Filipino boxing wonder in Manny Pacquaio. For all we know, a Pacquiao win is a victory for all of us, lasting even more than six years in eyes of the world.
