Katmai: Intel's code name for a P6-series x86 microprocessor chip scheduled for introduction in early 1999. Katmai chips will have 70 new instructions for speeding up 3D graphics and other operations.

kernel: The fundamental part of an operating system (OS) that resides in memory at all times and activates calls to a system's hardware directly or interfaces with another software layer that drives the hardware.

keyframe: In animation, an image used at the beginning and/or end of an animation sequence as a reference point.

keyframing: In animation, an image used at the beginning and/or end of an animation sequence as a reference point.

keying: laying part of a second video source behind (chromakey or lumikey) or in front of (title key) your primary video source. The part of the video source that is removed ("keyed out") can either be darker than what you wish to keep (lumikey) or of a specific color selected to be removed (chromakey).
