A Hollow Victory

DATE : 7-2-01         OPPONENTS : St John's (h)
RESULT : Won 7-5      AUTHOR OF REPORT : Ben Fox
Well, we didn't win the league and we probably didn't deserve to. Harsh—maybe, factual - definitely.

When it came to the crunch and the pressure was on we folded like a house of cards built to crack 'Allouni'.

The performance in the singles on the whole was poor yet somehow we came out at 6-2. Only a bunch of chumps would throw the league title away from here......ahem.

Here's the flop....

Savory was (narrowly) beaten by Plumb in game 1, that's fair enough as Plumb is a quality player and deserved to win. However Savory's stock game is to win when he DOESN'T deserve to, pity he couldn't follow a lifetime's trend on weds.

Ol' 'Golden Bollox' himself got us back on level terms with a very average leg - still when you're as good as Stevenson it's hard to lift yourself against chumps. 1-1.

Tom 'Influenza' Clifford stood up next and won't want to remember what happened. 1-2

Fox stood up and failed to produce anything like good darts. Still when your playing against a complete twat it never really matters. I gave him a few doubles shots and then got bored....(!) 2-2.

Sparkes was next and was one of the few (if only) players to actually double in first. Sparkes sportingly let his opponent catch up before fucking up 20 twice going 6 double7 - but nailing it 3rd time. That's a bit random. 3-2.

Barkworth took out 34 to claim his leg. It has to be said that like our team the average standard of their darts didn't fall as you went down the order. Still, that's 4-2 to us.

Fads went in with 47, out with 48. Nice consistency from a man firmly back in control of his life, and more importantly HIS DARTS. 5-2.

Killingley showed his worth as the #1 reserve by stepping into ill TEEHEE's shoes and winning with double 8. 6-2.

By now all we have to do is win 2 of the 4 doubles legs. Even Oriel could manage that.....

Clifford and Stevenson went down to doubles cuppers champions Holt and Plumb. Never in the game. 6-3.
Savory and Sparkes proved their worth as a doubles combination by also losing to a random pair. 6-4. We still haven't won the game.........never mind the league.....

Barkworth and Killingley were equally inept and that's 6-5. Now the best we can hope for is a final game victory and a 7-5 queens/peters score.
Fads carries Fox again and doubles out in the madhouse. 7-5 against a relegated side was never going to be enough - fair play to queens they won 8-4 and bagged the league.

So 1 leg decided the title out of 120 played.
That's darts.

Many thanks to our growing band of supporters....

Nicholls - for the random abuse only he can generate

Stephany - for deflecting abuse away from our team by being even a bigger c**t than we are.

Drews - only missed 2 games (through illness) - kindly saved sultoon from a pint glass in the face by taking the brunt of it herself......

Lynch - one for the future, the heir to fads' throne - he is the #1 contender for the right to stand in the oppositions face and scream rubbish into their ear.

Lander - for comforting our boys in their time of need.

Coles - for mobilising his peers.

Hales, Davis, Cox, Bale, Sultoon, for being there in our triumph at Queens.

And everyone else.........now let's have cuppers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
