Lilburn Dye, b. 14 June 1840 (Russell Co., VA), m. Eliz. Sword on 15 Aug 1859 in Hazard, Perry Co., KY and died 14 June 1888 in Pikeville, KY.
===================================================
Kennis Dye was the son of my Ggrandfather Lilburn Dye and Ggrandmother Elizabeth Sword. He was born in Pike co. and on Island Creek. He was the brother of my grandfather William W. Dye. Lilburn and Elizabeth had 22 children.
===================================================
My husband's 2nd g-gdf was Larkin Howell (born 1804 in Ashe Co, NC), married 3 times. His second and third wives were sisters: Priscilla and Euphrasia Dye. We do not know the name of his first wife, however, we do know they had a son named Jesse. Larkin and Priscilla (sp#2) were reportedly married about 1839 in Floyd Co, KY. According to information we have received, their first child was a son named "LILBURN". I am using a friend's computer, so do not have Lilburn's birth info at hand, but can get that to you later, if you would like to e-mail me. Perhaps we could be of assistance in our HOWELL-DYE research.
===================================================
My husband's 2nd g-gm was EUPHRASIA DYE (also referred to as Vempasy, Nufracy, Fracey, and Francis). She was born 1820-West Virginia; married Abt 1849 (div) in Floyd Co, KY to Larkin Howell (and later to a Mr. McFarland); died abt 1895 in Dana,Floyd, Kentucky. Euphrasia and Larkin reportedly had 6 children: Jane, George Washington (our anc), Hiram, William Melvin, Pauline, and Thomas. However, there may have been as many as 6 other children living with them (from Larkin's previous two marriages): Jesse, Lilburn, Malinda, Maria/Polly/MaryAnn, John W and James H.

Something about your message sounds familiar to me. Did your Lilburn Dye by any chance have a family connection to a LARKIN HOWELL and PRISCILLA DYE? Larkin was my husband's 2nd great grandfather, who was born 1804 in Ashe Co, NC (family unknown). He married at least three times that we are aware of (the last two women he married were sisters): Wife #1 is unknown, but they married abt 1826. They had one son, Jesse. Wife #2 was Priscilla Dye, whom he married in Abt 1839. He and Priscilla had five children, the oldest of whom was a son named LILBURN. Larkin then married Priscilla's sister, Euphrasia (Fracey) in about 1849 and had six more children.
My question is this: IS IT POSSIBLE YOUR LILBURN WAS THE OLDEST SON WE HAVE LISTED FOR LARKIN AND PRISCILLA. I suppose it could be possible that "our" Lilburn might have been born to Priscilla before her marriage to Larkin Howell, which could explain the use of his mother's surname, IF these two are, indeed, one and the same.

Your query caught my eye, as my husband's 2nd g-gdf was a LARKIN HOWELL b 1804 in Ashe Co, NC. Larkin married 3 times in Floyd Co, KY (that we know of):
1-Unknown spouse ???? 1ch: Jesse
2-Priscilla Dye 1839 5ch:Lilburn, Malinda, John W., James H., Maria/Polly/MaryAnn
3-Euphrasia Dye 1849 6ch: Jane, Hiram, Pauline, (aka:Vempasy, Fracey, George Washington, Nufracy, Francis) William Melvin, (sister of Priscilla) Thomas
We, too, have been searching for any information regarding Larkin's family. We just learned that the mother of Priscilla and Euphrasia was a "Cherokee Indian
Woman". My husband descends from Euphrasia (Fracey). I know I am not of
much help, but perhaps what little info we have may help another who checks out your query.
We would appreciate any information you may happen to stumble upon regarding Larkin's family. We will do the same. Thanks for your time - and for your query!

I was excited to read your message regarding Larkin Jesse Howell, whom I believe to be the 2nd g-gdf of my husband. This is the information we currently have: LARKIN HOWELL was born in 1804 in Ashe Co, NC (according to census records). He married at least three times - the last two wives were sisters (all 3 in Floyd Co, KY): #1-Unnamed spouse (abt 1826)>1 son: Jesse. #2-Priscilla Dye (abt 1839)>5 children: Lilburn, Malinda, Maria/Polly/MaryAnn, John W, James H. #3-Euphrasia/Vempasy/Nufracy/Fracey/Frances Dye (abt 1849)>6 children: Jane, George Washington (my husband's great grandfather), Hiram, William Melvin, Pauline, and Thomas.
I do not have the birthdates and spouses of these children with me right now, but could provide what I have of those upon request.
We have been searching for information regarding the parents and siblings of our Larkin Howell. Could YOUR Larkin and OUR Larkin be the same person?

My husband is a 2nd great grandson of a Larkin Howell: born 1804 in Ashe Co, NC; married Abt 1849 to Euphrasia Dye in Floyd Co,KY, with whom he had six children (Jane, George Washington, Hiram, William Melvin, Pauline, and Thomas). Our Larkin was married at least two other times prior to his marriage to Euphrasia (Fracey), of which we are aware. He married ?? in 1826, and had a son, Jesse. He married Priscilla Dye in 1839, and had five children (Lilburn, Malinda, Maria/Polly/MaryAnn,John W,and James H).
At least, that's what we have been led to believe. However, we just received an
email in response to a message we posted, which may prove otherwise. Nonetheless, we appear to be climbing the same family tree, and would, therefore, like to correspond with you. Once I get home to get the documents we have on the Howell family, I will email you that info. I would appreciate it if you would please do the same. Thanks for submitting a message to the forum. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

It is my understanding that Lilburn and Malinda were not Larkin's. Lilburn later married as Lilburn Dye. The 1850 Census for Russell Co.,Va has Pricilla but I think it is Fracy (Fracilla?). I am desc from Larkin's son Jesse and Elizabeth Hall. Their son Tandy, m(1) Sarah Hall m(2) Kentucky Ferrell, had about 22 children. Tandy and Sarah were my gg grandparents. I'll check the list of names for Jackson and George. I feel that Larkin went by another name until he hooked up with Fracey.
===================================================
I also thought some of the Russell Co., VA census showed families named "Necessary". Was there a Dye family that had a given name of "Neccesary"? In which census? There was a John Dye and family living next to Larkin Howell. Some of us believe it is possible Euphrasia was a daughter of John Dye & Nancy Little.
===================================================
That Name of Larkin's wife appears in the 1860 census of Pike Co. Ky. You might want to look up other people in the censuses of the same era of people named Necessary

Does anyone have a picture or description of Euphrasis, b. abt 1820 in Russell Co., VA, died 1905 - that married Larkin Jesse Howell (1844), then James Robert in 1871 and finally married Matthew Gillespie in 1880?

My great great grandfather was George W. Howell Bown 3 March 1853 in Pikeville Ky. He married Louisa Jane Hall on 4 June 1875 in Floyd KY. His father was Larkin Howell from Ashe NC
