T-77A Rattlesnake Stealth Exo |
The
Rattlesnake is the only true stealth Exo produced by the Axis.
Although ‘stealth’ conversion packages exist for almost every
Exo in existence, only the Rattlesnake (in the Axis) was designed
and produced exclusively to maximize the stealth technology
available. When the Rattlesnake project began the Axis choose to
use the Asp as the base to the Rattlesnake. Since the Asp was the
most maneuverable and agile of all the Axis Exo’s its frame was
a natural choice. Several production models of the Asp were
shipped to three separate and secured locations. Where the
weapons, armor and controls were stripped out and rebuilt from the
ground up. Over
the course of the project the Rattlesnake began to take shape. The
physical frame of the Asp remained (mostly) the same, but after
that the Asp and Rattlesnake part ways. The computer and control
system for the Rattlesnake involved the incorporation of new state
of the art sensor and display technology. The cockpits controls
are all digital readouts and computer controls. The final design
of the Rattlesnakes cockpit would not look out of place in a
science fiction movie. The armor of the Rattlesnake was also
reworked. New armor plates were designed and coated with a special
RAM Skin (Radar Absorbing Material) that could absorb many forms
of energy including thermal signatures, visible light spectrum and
LADAR/RADAR waves. The
armor is what gives this Exo its name, the telltale angles of a
stealth equipped armor created the illusion of several diamond
shaped patches on the Exo’s armor. The pattern reminded one of
the technicians of a Diamond Back Rattlesnake he had seen in
pictures, and the name stuck. Once equipped with its controls and
armor the Rattlesnake entered a short shakedown period. In this
time all the systems were put through there paces. It was also
during this time that the Rattlesnakes weapons payload was
determined. At first stealth treated weapons similar to those of
the Asp were chosen. But many of the senior designers of the
Rattlesnake felt that these less powerful weapons did not suit the
performance capabilities of their new design. To that end the
design team lobbied with the military to allow them to test a new
weapons configuration for the Rattlesnake, a payload better suited
to the units stealth abilities and performance. The
new payload was centered on small, long-range munitions able to
target and destroy enemy assets at a long range. The main gun of
the Rattlesnake was a specially modified medium rifle, the
standard rocket pods seen on almost all Exo’s was dropped in
favor of a more stream lined look to the Exo. However the
Rattlesnake still needed a hard-hitting weapon should it come up
against another Exo or armored unit at close range. So the
Rattlesnake was equipped with a pair of heavy hand grenades. This
combination of weapons has proven to work quite well with the
Rattlesnakes stealth characteristics and performance. However the
military insisted that a rocket pod hard point be maintained on
the unit as a option. So the Rattlesnake also has two small rocket
pod hard points (one per shoulder) to accept custom designed light
rocket pods (fitted with stealth shielding) that can be jettisoned
when empty. The
Rattlesnake has only seen limited use in the field so far. The
cost of the Rattlesnake has meant that very few units exist, and
those that do are closely guarded. Any mission a Rattlesnake is
expected to perform is planned well in advance and with every
conceivable variable. Only when a mission is assured of success
are the Rattlesnakes issued their marching orders. The
success of the Rattlesnake and its stealth technology has prompted
the Axis to look at adding stealth technology to other Exo
designs. Currently the Cobra Command Exo is undergoing analysis as
a potential new Stealth Combat Exo. However it will be at least a
few years before this unit is complete and ready for production. |

* A single asterisk indicates a small and difficult target to strike, requiring the attacker to make a “called shot”, but even then the attacker is –4 to strike.
** Destroying the head of the power armor will eliminate all forms of optical enhancement and sensory systems. The pilot must rely on his own human vision and senses. No power armor combat bonuses to strike, parry, and dodge! The head is a small and difficult target to hit, it can only be hit when a character makes a ‘called shot’, and even then the attacker is –3 to strike.
*** Deleting the S.D.C. of the main body will shut the armor down completely, making it useless. In emergency release system allows the pilot to escape the Exo if the main body is destroyed, and they survive. However most Exo’s do not have any storage area for food, armor or weapons. Therefore, unless otherwise noted, the pilot must rely on their own sidearm and any armor they were wearing when piloting the Exo. |
Speed: |
||
Running: | ![]() |
53.0
mph (84.8 km) maximum. Note that the act of running does
not tire the operator and the Exo’s top speed can be
maintained indefinitely, only the pilots own fatigue
will limit the duration of the unit’s movements. The
Rattlesnake walks at a more reasonable speed of 32.0 mph
(51.2 km), and should be considered the units cruising
speed. |
Leaping: | The
powerful robot legs can leap up to 21.2 feet (6.8 m)
high and 10 feet (3.2 m) across from a standing
position. A running jump increases the distance to 42.4
feet (13.7 m) long and 10 feet (3.2 m) high. |
|
Underwater: | Swimming: The Exo can swim using the same type of paddling leg and arm motion as a human at a maximum speed of roughly 4 mph (6.4 km/3.4 knots). It can also walk along the bottom of the sea at about 25% its normal running speed.
Maximum Depth: | 1,000 feet (305 m). |

TE-S1 Turbine Engine feeding a super conductive battery.
|
|
Range (Per tank of Fuel): | The
battery provides enough energy for 20 hour of regular
maneuvers or 12 hours of moderate combat maneuvers.
Heavy combat maneuvers will use the batters charge in 8
hours. The Turbine engine must then be activated to
either recharge the battery or directly power the Exo.
The TE-S1 will provide the Exo with direct energy for 30
hours of moderate use before needing refueling. Heavy
use will consume the fuel supply in 20 hours. Recharging
the battery to full capacity takes 1 hour (4 hours if on
the move). All Exo’s use an advanced Turbine Engine
that can burn any gasoline derivative fuel, including
automobile gasoline, aircraft and marine fuel and even
diesel without ill effect. However all non-Exo fuel
reduces the operation abilities (range, speed, duration)
by 25%. Only Exo Fuel will allow the unit to function at
100% efficiency. |

Construction Cost: | $1,605,333.00
dollars for a new, undamaged, full equipped standard
Rattlesnake Exo complete with all configuration type
weapon systems. |

Weapon Name: | ![]() |
Special Notes: |
Hughes 30mm Medium Assault Rifle | 25
explosive tipped shells per clip. Only standard clips
fit the Hughes 30mm. The Rattlesnake carries 2 extra
clips. |
|
Raytheon Company 50mm Light Rocket Pack (Optional) | The
normal payload of the Rattlesnake is 2 x 8 round rocket
pods, for a combined total of 16 rockets. The rocket
pods are designed in a stack configuration, so only 4
rockets per pod are ready to fire at a time. The
remaining rockets slide into launch position once the
first is fired. |
|
Grumman & Saco Defense Heavy Hand Grenade | The
Cobra normally carries 3 Light Grenades strapped to the arm that carried the main gun. The free hand can then reach over
and use the grenade without disturbing the grip on the
weapon. |
|
General Electric Vibro-Blade
Hand To Hand Combat | Rather than use a weapon, the
pilot can engage in hand to hand combat. See Basic and
Elite Power Armor Combat Training for combat bonuses. |
|
Sensor System Note | The
Rattlesnake has full optical systems, including laser
targeting, telescopic, passive nightvision (light
amplification), thermo-imaging, infrared, ultraviolet,
and polarization. Plus all the other features common to
all Exo’s. |
|
Sensor Bonuses | The Rattlesnake gets a bonus of +1 to strike, and +4 to dodge and +3 to parry in addition to the power armor target bonus and Basic or Elite Power Armor Combat Training bonuses. As well the Rattlesnake possesses and advanced sniper computer, providing a +2 to strike on called sniper shots only. |
