Typical
Exo Squadrons
The following is a list of the most common Exo Squadron configurations encountered by both the Alliance and the Axis. While other team configurations most likely do exist, the playing character is most likely to find him or her self in one of the following. These are meant only as guidelines, the Game Master should tailor the teams equipment, experience, weapons and supplies on a campaign-by-campaign basis. The information that follows is only a general guide, not a rule. The following Squadron configurations are commonly assigned
General
Purpose Exo Squads represent the vast majority of all Exo Squads. Almost
without exception every Exo Pilot starts their military career as a
member of a General Purpose Squadron. Once they have proven themselves
in battle and gained some much needed combat experience they may be
reassigned to a unit more suited to the pilots particular strengths.
General Purpose squads represent the backbone of the Exo military,
performing all manner of function from simple patrols to combat
engineering. In cases where more specialized teams are unavailable the
General Purpose Squadron is assigned those duties. Most General Purpose
Squadron pilots the most common Exo Units, the General Dynamics EX-07 C
Jaguar. General Purpose squads can request additional ammunitions,
supplies or other Exo’s, but there rank as ‘General Purpose’
places them as a medium-to-low priority Squadron, unless otherwise
noted. Therefore assignment of additional equipment or alternate Exo’s
is limited and unlikely. However those squads that have distinguished
themselves in battle may have their priority level re-evaluated and
succeed in having more advanced equipment shipped their way. Standard

General Dynamics 20mm Light Assault Cannon can be upgraded to the
Grumman 30mm Medium Assault Cannon. Recon
squads are responsible for a variety of missions, usually including
patrolling areas to locate hidden enemy encampments and emplacements.
The Recon units are also responsible for advanced forward observing and
target designation. At least one or more of the Exo’s in the Squadron
will have and upgraded communications suite to relay targeting
information back to the troops. The Squadron is also tasked with
intelligence gathering so many squads will have at least one pilot
trained in intelligence and counter intelligence techniques as well as
electronic counter measures and communications decoding. Standard

One or two (only) Quantico Manufacturing 20mm Drop Guns for General
Dynamics Rapid Fire Bazookas. Fire
support squads are tasked with the softening up of hardened targets,
heavy fortifications or when field commands feel that sheer firepower is
the tool to use. The units are slower then other squads and are
therefore usually assigned with other squads that can make up for the
teams slower moving equipment. The current fire support configuration
teams three somewhat lighter Exo’s in front to take care of enemy
troops while two heavy Exo stay in back and bombard the enemy into dust.
Fire Support squads are not recommended for rookie pilots (player) as
their slower speeds place them at a real disadvantage in a fast paced
battle. Fire Support Squadron usually do not see a great amount of
frontline action, rather they are medium to rear line troops. Only on
rare occasion do Fire Support squads see front line action, since they
are too valuable to risk. Standard

upgraded to a General Dynamic Rapid Fire Bazooka, and one Lion Fire
Support Exo may have its Grumman 40mm Heavy Assault Cannon upgraded to a

squads are meant for medium armored targets that move to fast for the
heavier units and are too well armored for the lighter recon Exo’s.
Normal duties assigned to strike teams are tank-hunting missions and
long range patrols. The members of a strike team take particular pride
in their kills, often adorning their Exo’s with kill marks or similar
marks of courage, valor and success. Strike Squads also have a
reputation for honor above all else. The see their units as being the
most prestigious in the Exo armed forces and as such serve as an example
for the other squads to life up to. Any Squadron member who commits a
dishonorable act will have to face his or her other Squadron mates, a
option that is often more dangerous and painful then being arrested by
military police or a reprimand from a superior officer. Strike Squadron
members are usually culled from General Purpose Squads, pilots who show
fast reaction times with a cool head are prime candidates for a Strike
Squadron. Often Strike Squadron commanders will review mission
debriefings and training scenarios of junior pilots to see if they have
the ‘right stuff’. Standard

The Jaguar Exo’s may have their General Dynamics 20mm Light Assault
Cannons upgraded to a General Dynamic Rapid Fire Bazookas. Heavy
Strike Squads are the big brother to the Strike Squadron. Similar in
internal configuration to the Strike Squadron, the Heavy Strike Squadron
is called into service when the enemy is simply too well armored or
protected to be threatened by lighter Exo’s. Heavy Strikes include
armored caravan attacks, convoys, shipments, heavy tank movements and
alike. As with the Strike Squadron honor forms the core of the unit, and
dishonor is not tolerated. The Heavy Strike Squadron will often find new
recruits from the General Purpose and Strike Squadron. Candidates who
demonstrate superior tactical thinking and gunnery skills will be
recruited or promoted into a Heavy Strike Squadron. Standard

Squads represent one of the most prestigious and respected squads in the
entire Exo army, second only to the Elite Squadron. Commandos are
trained in team and individual combat, hand to hand situations and deep
penetration missions. Commando Squads will often have their Exo’s
outfitted with air droppable equipment and parachutes, allowing them to
be deployed behind enemy lines by transport aircraft. A single Commando
Squadron can be air dropped by a pair of C-130 Hercules, able to be
launched from a land base or Air Craft Carrier. The Commandos normal
mission includes seek and destroy missions, tactical/surgical strike,
deep recon, rescue and assassination missions (where a Panther is not
the correct Exo choice). Commando Squads live a strike life, they are
committed to the cause, and their Squadron is there family. Each
Squadron member will go to great means to avenge a Squadron mate,
sometimes beyond the bounds of duty. This closeness has caused some
trouble in the past for the military, but they generally look the other
way because of the success of the Commandos. Potential Commando
operatives are recruited from Strike and Recon Squads. Pilots who can
think on their feet, stay cool under pressure, and have limited or no
living family are the preferred recruit (Limited to no family recruits
are chosen because of the high risk operations the Commandos undertake). Standard

its General Dynamics 20mm Light Assault Cannon upgraded to a Walther
40mm Heavy Assault Rifle. Light
Attack Squads can be though of as the next evolution in the General
Purpose Squadron configuration. The unit is designed to provide greater
stopping power then the General Purpose Squadron, while maintaining at
least a decent amount of speed and flexibility. Light Attack Squads are
the second most common configuration in the Exo armed forces, as well as
the second most common place for playing characters to aspire to. The
Light Attack Squadron generally inherits the more senior General Purpose
pilots who are not picked up by other squads or recruited into other
teams. Some feel this passing of the torch to be something of a blemish
on a pilots record, as if they were not good enough to make it into
another more specialized Squadron. Nothing could be further from the
truth. Light Attack Squads see more action, frontline and supportive
then most of the other squads combined. The represent a more powerful
version of the General Purpose Squadron and are often assigned duties to
dangerous for the General Purpose Squadron to handle. Standard

Two of the Jaguar Exo’s may have their General Dynamics 20mm Light
Assault Cannons upgraded to Crane Industries 110mm Tank Hunter. While
the Lion may have its Grumman 40mmHeavy Assault Cannon upgraded to a
General Electric 45mm Very Heavy Assault Cannon. The
Heavy Attack Squadron is the ultimate evolution of the General Purpose
Squadron. They are the most powerful Squadron configuration short of a
Walker Squadron. They possess superior firepower in the form of three
Leo Fire Support Exo’s, directed by advanced forward Puma Scout
Exo’s. With the Puma’s relaying their targeting information back to
the Leo’s, the Leo’s are able to deliver direct and indirect fire
with pinpoint accuracy, without ever really exposing themselves to enemy
counterattack. Heavy Attack Squads recruit their pilots from the Light
Attack, General Purpose and Fire Support squads. Candidates are
recruited on their ability to handle multiple targets simultaneously,
while being able to coordinate their attack with forward observers. Many
pilots equate life as a Heavy Attack Squadron Pilot to a multi-player
video game. You must make quick decisions based on what you see and what
info other provide you. You must pick your targets carefully, while
allowing other to pick theirs, after all shooting the same target is a
waste of time and ammunition. Standard

Assault Cannon upgraded to a Rock Island Inc. 60mm Ultra Light Field
Gun. A second Lion may have its Grumman 40mmHeavy Assault Cannon
upgraded to a General Electric 45mm Very Heavy Assault Cannon. The third
Lion must remain unchanged. Elite
Squads are the ultimate goal of almost every Exo Pilot. To be recruited
into the Elites means you are the best of the best. Elite pilots undergo
further training once they are recruited. The learn how to push their
machines to the limit, and then some. Elite Squads recruit from every
other Squadron in the Exo armed forces. Although many apply for a
transfer into the Elites, only those pilots invited and sponsored by an
existing Elite can make it. Even then over 95% of all Elite candidates
‘wash out’ and return to their former Squadron. Elite Squads serve
two main functions. First they are the equivalent of Exo SEALS, able to
do everything and anything at a moments notice. Second they are the most
well-known and publicized squads ever. Elite Squads are used in
recruitment campaigns, public displays, honor guards, and other public
functions. Their role as a moral and propaganda tool is almost equal to
their combat abilities. Elite Pilots are the superstars of the Exo
pilots, and are often revered as ‘gods’ by new recruits. Standard

have its Grumman 40mm Heavy Assault Cannon upgraded to Crane Industries
110mm Tank Hunter with the addition of a Remington Industries 45mm
Fragmentation Cannon as a secondary weapon. Stealth
Squads are the most elusive and least well known of all the Exo Squads.
While everyone knows they exist, they are the least publicized. Stealth
Squads are assigned duties no other Squadron could or should be asked to
do. They are covert operatives assigned infiltration, assassination,
kidnapping and demolitions work. While other squads can perform these
functions, the Stealth Squadron performs them in populated areas behind
enemy lines under the noses of enemy sensors. Every Stealth Squadron
pilot has sworn an oath to do all that is necessary to protect their
country and believes, this includes self-detonating their Exo in case of
capture. To date the Alliance has never has a Stealth Pilot captured
alive, or his Machine examined, except as tiny little pieces of debris.
Stealth Squadron recruits from only the more senior squads such as the
Elites, Commandos and Strike and Recon squads. Their main criteria for
recruits are an unwavering loyalty to the cause. Some critics of the
Stealth Squadron program fear that the members may one day become
disillusioned with their commanders and turn rogue. Strict protocols
exist within the Stealth Squads to prevent this, and all pilots undergo
what has become known as loyalty tests on a regular basis. Standard

The Panther Stealth Exo’s may have their Quantico Manufacturing 20mm
Drop Gun replaced by Hughes 30mm Medium Assault Rifle or Grumman 30mm
Medium Assault Cannon. Walker
Squads are the ultimate form of mobile infantry and heavy weapon. Each
walker has the firepower of several modern day main battle tanks. A
Squadron of five has the firepower to level a city block or make a
crater that would hold an ocean. Walker Squads do have one very distinct
disadvantage; they are incredibly slow, which makes them an easy target
for even a lightly armored unit. However military doctrine means that a
Walker Squadron hangs back and supplies long range indirect weapons fire
and missile barrages from a safe distance. Walker squads are never left
alone, they are always assigned a protective General Purpose or Recon
Squadron to prevent any stray enemy teams from getting to close. Walker
Squads recruit their pilots from Fire Support and Heavy Attack Squads.
Any pilot showing a real prowess with heavy weapons is a candidate for
Walker Squadron duty. Standard
