The Field Mechanic is responsible for a variety of functions within the military. The Field Mechanic is a generic name given to mechanics and maintenance personnel alike. The Field Mechanics are primarily tasked with the upkeep of all military equipment not already maintained by specialists (Such as communications equipment). On the battlefield the Field Mechanic can be seen performing the duties of the Ordnance Specialist, Metal Worker, Equipment Specialist, Machinist and Combat Engineer. They are highly trained and valuable personnel, most units would simply cease to function from disrepair and battle damage if not for the efforts of the Field Mechanic.

Field Mechanics are responsible fir the maintenance and repair of survival equipment such as flotation devices and parachutes. They must be able to make field repairs on a moment’s notice, so they are trained in the operation of machinist equipment, allowing them to make gears, shafts and general equipment near the frontline of the battle.

Due to the heavy amount of training the Field Mechanics are exposed too they are often classed as non-combatants, although they do go through the same basic training and survival training as all military personnel. The Field Mechanic is often kept out of harms way until absolutely necessary, and even then they are assigned a Infantryman as guard before heading out into the battlefield. Field Mechanics are among the most important field operative the Military possesses, as such a great deal of emphasis is placed on their safety, if captured a commander will expend a great deal of manpower to secure the Field Mechanics safe return.
