Investigation objectives can be very easy, quick and fun. Or if done with something of a cruel twist of the part of the Game Master, they can be long, drawn out and thought provoking mysteries. Regardless of how the scenario is played, it should be enjoyable for everyone involved. This means keeping thing somewhat face paced and able to hold the interest of the players, thus overly convoluted mysteries or one with a never ending point should be avoided.

Missing Person: Your mission is the investigation of a missing person, or a kidnap victim. You could be a Military Police Officer, Private Detective, regular Police Officer or simple an entrepreneurial investigator. The person that has gone missing needs you to find them. You will need to track down clues, find leads and figure out exactly who and why the person went missing. A successful mission could be the recovery of the person, or brining their kidnappers to justice.

Theft: You are investigating the theft of a special item. Perhaps you’re employed may be a pharmaceutical company and their latest nerve gas has been stolen. Or maybe you work for the Diamond Exchange, and you have been sent to investigate a theft or insurance claim. Or you could be a cop on the beat looking to catch that elusive purse-snatcher who works the subways. You will have to face the possibility that some crimes are never solved. However even an unsolved mystery can be a successful mission so long as a lesson is learned or a suspect found.

Friend (s): You have been assigned the unenviable task of investigate a friend or the family or close personal friend. You might be investigating them as a potential candidate to join an elite military force. Or you might suspect them of being a criminal planning their next big job. You will have to put your personal feelings aside and act professionally. However, what if you discover your friend to be unworthy or disloyal how will you handle it? What if your friend is a criminal? Will you turn them in> Ask then to repent? Or bring them to justice yourself?

Military Personnel: You have been asked by a superior officer to investigate suspicious conduct of a fellow military person. That person may be someone in your command, a person in your squad of equal rank, or even to monitor the behavior of a superior. You are to look for illegal activities, immorality, conduct unbecoming and officer, or other item. You mission places you at risk; a close unit takes informants and spies very seriously. If anyone found out you were investigating another soldier you could be black listed, and have your military career ruined.

Information Tip: An anonymous tip has found its way into your possession. Rather then let the information lapse you decide to look into it. The information may lead you to criminal activities being committed. Or maybe it is an enemy recon unit working your area. Perhaps you were told a traitor is in your midst, or a double agent. The information must be investigated further, and a successful investigation could lead you to some startling facts about your environment and friends.

Civilian (s): Suspicious activity has been reported in your area and you have been asked to look in on the locals. Reports suggest that enemy sympathizers, traitors, rebels and spies might be working the area. Terrorist organization has been known in the past to set up shop in small town America right under the noses of the police. Could that be the situation here? Has the enemy started a covert operation in the area you call your own? The successful mission means finding the answers to this and many other questions. Now the question is what do you do with that information once you have it?
