Remington
Industries 45mm Fragmentation Cannon
|
The
Fragmentation Cannon is a ‘short range’ weapon by Exo
standards. However this is not a flaw in its design, rather a perk
to its performance. Both the Alliance and the Axis learned that
armor-piercing rounds at close range could penetrate and go
through armor if it is too closer. This effect nicknamed
“Overkill” diminishes the amount of damage any target takes,
sort of like a surgeons scalpel verses a machete, many weapon have
a minimum effective range as well as a maximum effective range.
The Fragmentation Cannon is designed to fill that role. The Frag
Cannon, as it is called, fires tumbling buckshot at its targets.
The rounds are slower moving because of their rotation (tumble)
but inflict good damage for there size and speed. The Frag Cannon
has become a favorite weapon of close quarters non-melee combat,
that is the range between the minimum effective range of most
weapon and actual hand to hand combat (melee) range.
