Rock
Island Inc. 105mm Light Field Gun
|
The Rock Island Light Field Gun is the primary towed cannon of the
Rapid Deployment Forces of the Axis. The basic arrangement of the
gun is that of a typical towed field gun, the main barrel and
breach are mounted on a recoil suppressor and turret. The turret
is then mounted on a simple two or four wheeled chassis that can
be towed by any light to medium weight vehicle, the suspension in
the chassis allows the gun to be towed off-road with little
concern for damage. Typically a crew of four in a Humvee or other
multi-purpose off-road vehicle tows the Light Field Gun. The
normal crew combination includes a Field Gunner (equal to a
commander), Gunner’s Mate, Ordinance Specialist and a Target
Coordinator. The Gun itself is a smooth bore weapon capable of
firing a variety of 90mm shells including the new 90mm BLAM
(Barrel Launched Adaptive Munitions), which is able to alter its
trajectory while in flight.
