Should Quebec be Recognized as a Distinct Society in the Constitution?

Introduction:

Quebec wants to be a distinctive society but it seems like this is causing quit a stir in Canada. Well this seminar shows what the province is asking for, they want to preserve their culture and language. That in its way is understandable but does that mean they need to be separated from the rest of the country?

Notes:

-The Constitution of Canada would be interpreted in a way that takes into consideration the unique character of Quebec and that the government should act in a manner that recognizes the distinctiveness of Quebec.

-The government of Quebec would act to maintain and build upon the distinctiveness.

-Such a recognition would make Quebec feel more certain of the survival of its language and culture, and this in turn would cause its residents to feel less inclined to forever secession from the rest of Canada.

-Nothing will really change except that Ouebeckers would feel a little more secure in their belief that the French culture and language will prevail.

-"Distinct" in this case is different not better.

-Clashes with the belief that all Canadians and all religions are equal.

Reflection:

Quebec should remain like all the other Canadian provinces. They want to preserve their culture but do they have to separate from Canada. Them wanting to be different will affect all of Canada including Toronto. We should unite instead of trying to be different from each other. Canada is a land of unity and we need to stand together to be a stronger nation. Every province should have their individual rights but we still need to be together rather than separate.
