Emotion Nick

Chat Commands

How to make emotions in a chat nick name... here's how to do it:
The boxes are Unicode characters you can copy & paste into your sign in and you will be able to make emotions in your nick on MSN Chat. This is possible because these Unicode characters have the same appearance as brackets, colon and etc., but in Windows 98 and other software, these characters are allowed in a sign-in where normally -- brackets, colons, and like -- are not allowed. The copy and paste doesn't work in Netscape. The easy way is to do it on MS Word 97 and MS Works, but it didn't work for me in 2000 version.

How to do it in Word 97 or/and MS Works:
Change your font to symbols, type your nick that you want and copy & paste it to your sign-in.... and you have got your nick with the emotions. However, if you don't have Word 97 or Works, then you use the Unicode characters below... Enjoy :)

Characters are in the following order... ( ) : * @ %

Copy these directly to your sign-in

The boxes represent these characters ( ) : * @ % Space [ ] \ / ' { } .
(Copy and Paste the boxes, from the first row, to your sign-in. The copy & paste doesn't work in Netscape and I'm not sure about Internet explorer below 5... If it's not working for you, email it to me and I'll put it here. Don't forget to mention your browser, it's version and the operating system that you were using. And if you have any solution to these problems PLEASE do email them. Thank You!)

MSN Chat control's short-cut commands:

Regedit utility can be used to obtain it; just use this path (\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNChat\4.0\UserData1). UserData1 holds the Ownerkey, you can use it give the golden hammer to anyone for your room. (Note: Sometimes, when you re-join your room UserData1 changes. Therefore, it's a safe practice to note it down if you want to keep your room open for a long time.)

/PART : Makes you leave the room. (i.e. Chat server rooms the user from the list of active members for the room that it was used in.)

/QUIT : Closes the connection with the chat server.

/VERSION : Gives the version of your MSN Chat control (client).

If this doesn't help, delete the chat control from Downloaded Program Files, run disk clean up utility, and restart.

Dealing with disruptive behavior:
If someone is disrupting your room you can simply put him/her on ignore, others, in the room, may do as well. You can also do a force ejection kicking the person out or even banning him/her. Sometimes disruptors are unbannable, and flood the  room with multiple joins.

You can turn off the arrival and departure in chat controls options, that will take care of the flooding problem.
You can put the disruptor on ignore. Some people say that they can come back with a different nick and then they are not on ignore anymore. Think about this, it is much more difficult for the disruptor to go back and change his/her nick name than you simply just reaching to his/her nick, right click, and put him/her on ignore. Sooner or later the disruptor will tire him/her self out.

If it is still bothering you you can go to MSN HelpDesk and ask there what you can do. In the mean time, you can try take care of the situation yourself. Just don't get frustrated and deal with the situation creatively. Usually these disruptors are looking for some attention, talk to them nicely maybe they will join the conversation in a normal way. If this doesn't help simply ignore their behavior, sooner or later, they will get bored and leave your chat room.
