1969 Pontiac GTO
The pics didn't turn out as great as they should have, my camera was tempermental when we yanked out the engine.  We had the engine out and apart in about five hours.  The engine was freshly  rebuilt before I purchased the car -- thats what I was told -- shortly after owning the car I noticed it was puffing white out the pipes.  The cause of the white smoke was improper piston ring installation Now that it's apart I can see that the 389 has had a fresh head job, the crank was just cut, and the cylinders are nice and clean.
I have decided to start from scratch and build a 400 for my GTO, with a few high performance add ons.   The block has been bored .030 over, decked .004, the crank cut .010 under, and line honed.  I will be using ARP bolts through out the engine, stronger connecting rods with chrome moly bolts, a balanced crank assembly, TRW forged racing pistons with moly rings, a high volume oil pump, Milodon seven quart oil pan, a double roller timing chain, an Extreme Energy cam from Comp Cams, and studded main caps.  On the top I'm using Comp Cams variable duration lifters, chrome moly push rods, a Torquer II intake, roller tipped rockers, and stronger valve springs to match the cam.  I'm using a set of 6X heads I yanked off a mid 70's Pontiac 350, these heads have the largest available valve size that are not Ram Air, plus they have hardened seats for unleaded gas.  The combustion chambers have to be milled from a 96cc to a 87cc to hit just slightly over the desired 10:1 compression ratio.  The heads had a three angle valve job done with some mild porting.  I'm using a Holley 750 cfm carb with the Edelbrock Elite series valve covers and matching air cleaner, air is filtered through a K&N filter and exhaust flows through a set of Ram Air exhaust manifolds and 2.5 exhaust pipe.  I have the engine just about complete besides some of the little details, there's more more pics and info on the following pages so go ahead and click next to see what other work I'm doing.
