First tell us little about history of your
band,from what country are you,
and discography:
The band is Abysmal Fall and we're from the USA. We play a
blend of black and death metal that is semi-technical, but emphasizes
songwriting more than technical ability. We've been around since the summer
of 1998 and thus far we have one mini-CD out entitled "Spit in the Face of
Christ". Our next CD will probably be five or six songs and we plan on
recording it in late November or early December so it should be out before
the new year.
1.Who are the band members:
The band is comprised of myself (Krist) on bass
and vocals, Mourn on guitar and Lord Iscariot on drums and vocals.
2.How did you got your name and what does it means:
The name basically translates into falling into the abyss, or falling into hell. We feel
it's an
appropriate name for such hateful blasphemous music.
3.What music stile do you play and compare it to some similar bands:
Well, as I said we play black and death metal and try to blend the styles together,
with perhaps a bit more emphasis on the black metal genre. As far as bands
that we sound like I really don't know who to compare us to because we always
try to achieve a unique sound. If we are ever easily compared to another band
we would take that as meaning that we were doing something wrong because we
try to avoid ripping off other bands. People have said that they hear traces
of Immortal, Carcass, Marduk, Deicide, Pessimist, Suffocation, Opeth, Jag
Panzer, Slayer, Nalgfar, Cynic and Immolation in our music, so I guess
people's opinions vary greatly as to what they think we compare to.
4.Some of your favorite groups:
Some of my personal favorite groups are Immolation, Cynic, Suffocation, Bela Fleck and the
Flecktones, Steve Vai, Wesley Willis, Marduk, BB King, Shadow's Fall, Nile, Pessimist,
Bach, Dave
Mathews Band, Morbid Angel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Miles Davis, Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Victor Wooten, Eric Clapton, Cradle of Filth, Joe Satriani, Death,
Dissection and probably ost of all, Opeth. Mourn is a big fan of Opeth, Iron
Maiden, older Slayer material, Morbid Angel, older Metallica, Gehenna,
Kreator, Oppressor and a lot of old school metal. Lord Iscariot like
Monstrosity, Mayhem (I don't like this band), Marduk, Darkthrone (I don't
like this band either), Bloodstorm, and lots of other bands.
5.Your opinion about underground and commercial music scene:
As far as I see
it, the metal underground is fairly strong, but it could be a lot stronger. I
think all the ridiculous sub-genres hurt the scene a lot. People who listen
to "death metal" refuse to give "black metal" a chance. And even more
ridiculous, people draw meaningless distinctions and base their preference on
these...for example a "gore-grind" fan might refuse to listen to a
"grindcore" or "noise" band when in actuality bands from all three
subgenera
might sound pretty much the same. I think metal fans need to be more accepting
of various types of metal and appreciate them for what they are. As far as
commercial music, I don't know, I really don't so much of value in commercial
music these days.
6.What was the biggest success of your band:
Just getting our first CD done
after a long period of time crafting and perfecting the songs.
7.How many concerts did you played and by your opinion what was the best:
We've probably played a few dozen. Actually, the concert that I thought was
really memorable was when we played with this band that sounded like
Aerosmith. It was great because there was a total mismatch of musical styles
and a ton of people showed up to see it. We chased a lot of people away and I
think deeply disturbed people with our harsh music and violet stage antics.
Another great moment in the band's live history was when Lord Iscariot
(drums/vocals) vomited on a statue of the virgin Mary on stage and then
licked it off before smashing it. It really disgusted a lot of people and
really showcased the band's anti-Christian stance. I just hope other bands
don't copy it. We also do things involving fire and mutilating bibles on
stage. We like to give people something to watch if they pay to see us.
8.The favorite song you made and why:
I personally like a lot of our songs. "May God Strike Me Dead" is good because
of it's up-front, pure aggression.
"Sadist Christ" has an unusual song structure that makes it stand out.
"Tears
of Blood" moves back and forth fluidly between slower death metallish parts
to grinding black metal parts. "Graven Image" has a great, almost catchy.
chorus. "Born to Die" just sounds different from all the rest in a good way.
I just like the fact that all the songs are unique and sound like songs
instead of a bunch of riffs thrown together. Our three new ones, "Save Your
Savior (Not as of You)", "Desecrated Trinity" and "Am I
Possessed" all carry
on the tradition set by our earlier songs, bt they will all be on the next CD.
9.Where you on some local radio show (or something like that):
We've been on two small local radio shows,
both of which were very entertaining to be on.
We had an amusing time in the studio and enjoyed the local exposure. Mikael,
from Night Conquers Day, hosts one of the shows we were on. It's called
"Sonic Insanity" and is the best black/death metal show I've ever heard.
There really isn't much of a metal scene in our town though.
10.Do you think that underground music need more attention of media and what
is your opinion about big music televisions and radio stations(such as MTV,Viva.....):
Well it would be nice if some bands got recognition for
their talent and hard work, but then again, if underground metal was given
more attention eh market would probably explode, become overplayed and
eventually the music would be ruined.
11.Do you have support of local metal fans:
Yes, but there aren't many local
fans around here. But the ones that do support us are great people and we
appreciate their support. Especially Luke, GEorge, Je, Warren, Eric, Scott,
Mike and Ron and numerous others...thanks guys.
12.Plans for the future:
We're just going to release another one and see
where it takes us, try to get signed, play a lot of shows and basically keep
the harsh underground metal alive.
13.Say something for the end:
We'd just like to thank all those who have
supported us and those who act like rock stars and think they're too good for
underground music can suffer and go to hell, they will fail in the end and
the rest of us shall rejoice in their downfall. Massive hails to our fellow
dedicated underground metal bands!!!
