0.Short history of the band:
Brick Bath was formed in 1996 in San Diego California. Formerly known as the band Epitaph,
the name was changed due to trademark disputes, and the arrival of new bass player Pete
Stone. The band has been an opening act for such national acts as Testament, Stuck
Mojo, Forbidden, Flotsam and Jetsam and Exodus.
1.Hi. First say something to the readers of Extremeron Zine!
Hello everyone! We hope to see all of you at our shows when we come to your town! Make
sure you put your diving gear on!
2.Can you introduce us to the band members of Brick Bath?
Joey McCaw- Vocals
Eric Meyer- Guitarist
Pete Stone- Bass
Scott Babbel- Drums
3.Before this band, did any of you play in some other bands and do you still
play in any other bands or projects?
Epitaph has always been Eric's baby from the conception. Joey did an album in 1995
with the band Shockhead called "Television" which featured former 24-7 Spyz
drummer Joel Maitoza and bass player Ricky Wolking from The Nixons. Pete was in a
band called DFA for many years, and played with the band Teabag for a short while prior to
joining Brick Bath.
4.Something about your musical taste, what do you listen to? Which
bands/musicians have influenced your band?
We all pretty much agree that we like the more heavier power metal side of the realm.
Bands like Sepultura, Pantera, Forbidden, Slipknot, Testament, Fear Factory, White
Zombie, Meshuggah, The Haunted, Pissing Razors. Pete likes everything from old Sabbath to
more fusion oriented music. Everyone in the band grew up on listening to bands like
AC/DC, Kiss, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Anthrax.
5.Your discography since the beginning, and can you describe to us your latest
material?
We recorded an album for Chainsaw Records called "Scarred" a few years back.
That record was a little more technical and progressive than our new material.
The new record titled " I Wont Live the Lie" has definitely received the
most attention on a worldwide level. The music is an over the top, anger fueled
sonic assault!
6.Favorite movie and beer?
"Blazing Saddles" and any beer that comes in a green bottle!
7.What else do you do besides playing music? Do you have a job or something?
This is our full time job! We take our music very seriously. This is all we do 24
hours a day, seven days a week. We live, eat, breathe and shit this music!
8.Interesting band name. Who came up with the idea, and can you explain
to us what it means?
We were originally going to name the title of our last record Brick Bath. We had written a
song with the same name for the title track of the album. It just kinda stuck, so we
just decided to change the band's name altogether.
9.Lyrics? Do they reflect your way of thinking? Your ideas and personal
attitude?
Yes, definitely! Joey says," When I sit down to write lyrics, they come from the
soul. They are usually situations or feelings I'm dealing with or trying to work through,
but definitely come from a personal level. Anger, frustration, depression and in the
same breath confidence, passion and intensity all come into play".
10.Are you religious?
Each individual member is probably more spiritual than religious.
11.How is today's situation in your local underground scene? The people's
support of the underground music? Do they come to concerts? Can you name is some clubs or
places to go in your area for underground music?
There is not much of an underground scene here, but we are creating our own underground
scene. Not many clubs exist in our area that support metal or underground music.
That's why we try to branch out to where we know it's more accepted. People
come out to our shows, but there are many struggling bands out there who might only get
four or five people to come see them perform live. We have been fortunate enough to
open up for National and local acts, and play for many people.
12.Who is your favorite porno movie star?
Joey -(Jeanne Fine)
Pete - (Traci Lords)
Eric - (Tie between Jenna Jameson and Stephine Swift)
Scott - (Doesn't have a favorite)
13.What do you think about today's metal music? Bands such as Limp Bizkit,
Korn, Slipknot? Which metal do you prefer of the 80's or 90's?
We definitely respect what all the nu metal bands are doing. Some more than others,
but all of them are keeping metal alive in their own format. There are so many great
bands that the public are just starting to hear about now that have been around for many
years. We were raised on pure old school heavy-metal like Sabbath, Priest, and
Metallica, so it's probably safe to say that our roots stem from 80's metal, but not all
that glam stuff!
14.Do you know some Yugoslavian underground bands?
Unfortunately no, but we would love to hear some.
15.If you had the opportunity, would you play in our country?
Definitely yes! We would love to come over and play some shows! Hopefully someday in the
near future it will be possible
16.If you had an opportunity to interview Brittany Spears, which three
questions would you ask her?
How long...
How hard..
and how much?
17.What was your best gig and what is the biggest number of people that comes
to your concerts?
The shows we did with Testament were definitely fun! The majority of clubs in our area
only hold 200 to 1000 people. We aren't fortunate enough to have festivals like they
do in Europe and in other countries.
18.Are you planning some type of tour?
We are currently putting dates together in hopes of a United States tour this winter.
19.How can people interested in Brick Bath contact you?
You can download songs from the new album and e-mail the band personally at
www.mp3.com/brickbath.
20.Do you have any closing words?
We want everyone to support and keep metal alive! Hopefully we will see you in 2002 !
