1.Can you tell us little about history of band, who
formed the band,when,why.............?
HERE'S A SHORT BIO:
- C.B. is the oldest and most prolific iitalian Grind/Punk outfit of the
times . born in Asti, a small grey town in the north of Italy.
- Formed in 1988 by two young noise-makeers: Giulio the Bastard (drums +
vocals) and Alberto the Crippler (guitar)
- The band goes through a very big varieety of styles, starting with filthy
raw Punk then moving to total Noisecore nihilism to italian type '80s
Hardcore to brutal misanthropic Grindcore etc. Year after year they
release tons of Demos, 7"s, comp. tracks etc.. always thanx to the
help/support of DIY labels/distros around the globe. In 1991Giulio the
Bastard starts his own label E.U.'91 Produzioni.
- 1996: the first C.B. album "Your lies in check" comes out on E.U.'91 +
Ecocentric and it's quickly followed by the anthological CD "Best crimes"
on USA's finest Grand Theft Audio, collecting the best C.B. singles and
demo trax goin' from '88 to '94.
- 2000: C.B. release the second officiall album "Misantropo a senso unico":
the vinyl version on E.U.'91 and the CD on Deaf American Prod., the label
run by Rich Hoak, drummer of BRUTAL TRUTH (rip). Obscene Productions from
Czech puts together a celebrative Comp. CD with 32 bands playing C.B.
covers in their own way.
- 2001: C.B. "Almost human" coollective CD comes out on Obscene Prod.,
featuring all C.B.'s studio works '97-'99 + 20 incredible trax recorded
live in Holland.
2.Current line up,did you change line up since the beginning,if you did why,and
do you plan to change the line up:
- In the years C.B. changed more than 122 drummers, 5 bassists, 3
guitarists, the only original member left today is the singer (and
song/lyric writer) Giulio the Bastard. The current line-up is GTB - voc,
Schintu The Wretched - bass, Der Kommissar - guit, Al Mazzotti - drums
Why so many changes... because it's extremely difficult to find people
interested in playing this kind of stuff and keep it going for years and
years. It takes a lot of time, energy and will. After a while a lot of ex
members couldn't take it any longer and gave up, or just showed up in a
fucked-up way causing a fracture in the band. Do we plan to change
again... who knows? time will tell.

4.Can you little describe us your music, and since
the beginning did you change the music stile?
As I wrote before, C.B. passed through a very big variety of styles,
starting with filthy raw Punk then moving to total Noisecore nihilism to
italian type '80s Hardcore to brutal misanthropic Grindcore etc.
5.Your favorite bands, and what are your main
influences. In band do you all listen same kind of music or.......?
We all listen to different kinds of music and it's impossible to generalize
writing down a long boring list of names. If I talk for myself, I can tell
that I love tons of varied stuff... above all '80s Hardcore/Punk (MOB 47,
WRETCHED, OLHO SECO, LÄRM, SIEGE, NEGATIVE FX, D.R.I., POISON IDEA,
ACCUSED, KAAOS, TERVEET KÄDET, RATTUS, BASTARDS, SYSTEMATIC DEATH, GAUZE,
OUTO, HHH etc.) then late '80s Grind/Thrash (early NAPALM DEATH, FEAR OF
GOD, PATARENI, UNSEEN TERROR, early O.L.D., TERRORIZER, S.O.B., REPULSION,
CARCASS, ELECTRO HIPPIES etc.), early Thrash/Speed metal ( SODOM, KREATOR,
WEHRMACHT, SLAYER, EXODUS, VENOM, POSSESSED, early VOIVOD, SADUS and tons
more) ... Of the '90s/modern bands I love stuff like MAN IS THE BASTARD,
ASSÜCK, DISRUPT, NEANDERTHAL, NO COMMENT, CROSSED OUT, BORN AGAINST, NASUM,
KRIEGSHOT, HELLNATION, RUPTURE etc... Plus, I have tons of personal
influences that have nothing to do with extreme music and HC.. for example
I'm the biggest fan in the world of ROKERI S MORAVU!!!! and I enjoy tons
of early '80s Pop/new wave + '50/'60 beat, I also dig bands like THE
GOBLIN, KING CRIMSON etc.. and my favourite italian musician is definitely
Adriano Celentano!!! He was the roots of Hardcore back in the '50s/60s!!
hehehe.
6.Can you describe us little noise, grind, gore, crust underground scene in
Italy. Are there many new bands that play this kind of music and are there many people who
support underground bands?
In Italy today there's no scene related to Crust/Grind/Noise and above all
no interest/support at all... maybe the only sign of life (but I wouldn't
call it a scene) that I saw during the years was the "Pasta Power Violence
2" comp. LP on SOA Records featuring over 30 italian bands playing some
kind of extreme HC/Crust/P.V. or stuff like that. But most of those bands
except few ones were just projects or anyway existed for a really short
lenght of time. Most of them have splitted up already. Today there's only
few outfits still active and doing something concrete. Besides Cripple
Bastards I can mention Comrades, Entropia (a fast HC band featuring 2 C.B.
members), Brainwash, Dysmorphic, Ohuzaru and some bands that I don't like,
for example No Somos Nada (ex Society Of Jesus) and others. As I told, if
you're interested in getting an idea of how was italian extreme HC in the
last years you should check out the "Past Power Violence" Comp. LP.
7.I heard that you did tribute album to
Patareni, what inspired you to do that. What do you think about underground scene
in EX Yugoslavia.Do you want to mention some band?
Yes, we recorded 5 Patareni covers for the "OBRADE" tribute LP. I'm a
friend of Hadzo/Patareni since a long time, I've always been very much into
his band and when he told me that he was going to put together that
release, I thought that C.B. had to take part to it at any cost. Patareni
have always inspired me a lot, I even saw them practicing and they were
incredible + I'm also a good friend of Poda, the original drummer from Novi
Sad that now lives in Amsterdam. I meet him every time we tour Holland.
Yes, and I love the old UG scene from ex Yugoslavia. I can mention tons of
bands.. from early '80s stuff like Pekinska Patka, Kud Idijoti, U.B.R.,
Distress, 2 Minuta Mrznje, Odpadki Civilizacije, III Kategorija, S.D.A. to
stuff that came later... Brainstorm (expecially the early Grind
recordings), Tri Debela Praseta, Traktor Drajver, Grc, Sexa, Acroholia +
tons more. And I love Satan Panonski, naravno!
8.Can you describe us your latest material. Is it different than the old one.Do
you plan to record something new soon?
The new album "Misantropo a senso unico" sounds more like a sort of
ultrafast italian Hardcore with tons of Thrash/Grind features mixed in, but
the basic structure of the songs is HC. The stuff that we recorded later
(upcoming split 7" with Regurgitate + further tracks that will come out in
the future) are back to a total Grind approach, just a bit more complex and
worked than early material.
9.Was it hard for you to find the right name for the band, did you change the
name?
In 1987 we were called "GRIMCORPSES", then me and the other former member
Alberto the Crippler thought to take out something new and ways more
extreme/aggressive.. the name Cripple Bastards was found very easily, I
don't know why but we quickly agreed on that and always found it perfect.
10.Best concert that you played on?
I don't know.. it's hard to choose which one was the best. Both our
appearances at the Obscene Extreme festivals in Czech Republic were
incredible + other shows in Czech, Slovakia and also the italian tours with
our brothers RATOS DE PORAO..
11.Do you like gore movies?
Yes, I'm a total maniac for '70/'80s cinema and I have an enormous passion
for Gore, Horror, Thrillers, dramas, violent action, mondo-movies and so
on. I mainly like the stuff that came out from Italy (Lucio Fulci, Dario
Argento, Ruggero Deodato, Umberto Lenzi etc.) but some also from other
countries. In the last times I'm getting a complete knowledge on
yugoslavian cinema... "VARIOLA VERA" is one of my all time favourite films!!
12.What do you think about noise art(music),what are your favorite noise bands?
You mean total noise stuff.. power noise, electronics and experimental
kinda things? I like BASTARD NOISE, THE GEROGERIGEGEGE, MASONNA,
INCAPACITANTS, MERZBOW and so on; but in the last times I haven't been
listening to that kind of music so frequently. In the past ('89/'93) I was
into a total Noise/Ambient band called "K.S.G.", we had some Demos released
around and 5 tracks on "Killed by the machinery of sorrow" Compilation CD
on Ecocentric Records.
13.Beside Cripple Bastards does any of you play in some other band or did any
of you played in some other band?
As I told I've been into K.S.G. with Alberto the Crippler. The current
C.B. members have other bands.. the drummer Al Mazzotti plays in a
technical Thrash/Metal outfit called "AUTOPSIA" (they have a CD out) while
the bass-player Schintu The Wretched is the drummer of ENTROPIA and the
guitarist Der Kommissar is also the guitar for ENTROPIA (fast old-school
Hardcore, they have a split 7" released). Ex members have been in tons of
bands that become who less who more quite important in the italian
Underground scene. We even had a bass-player from Brazil!
14.Can you describe us your lyrics, who writes them and what are they about?
I'm the writer of all C.B. lyrics. It's quite difficult to generalize and
sum up what they are all about... they mainly deal with everyday's
life/experiences seeen through my own mentality and way to be. The older
ones had a more socially engaged line even if they were always mixed with a
personal approach that often got them a bit distant from being rated as
"political". The most recent ones are just an expression of negativity and
inner-violence, a cynical look at the social background where all my rage
and frustrations grew up. Some turned out really critical and "to the
point".. in the new album there's songs attacking quite heavily some
classic subjects of the P.C. scene and some dealing with "hot" matters like
junk, feminists, suicides, prostitution and so on... You should read them
directly to get a better idea.
15.What do you think about new political situation in Yugoslavia?
Looks a bit better than how it was under Milosevic, but it's just a first
little step to rebuild a nation that has been completely destroyed and
taken down by the fucking yankees' forced supremacy. I really hope that
things will turn better in the next years, expecially concerning the
economical situation and the living conditions.
I love Yugo and balkanian culture/way of life in general.
16.Do you have any jobs beside playing in band?
I run a record label/mailorder and I have some parallel activities
concerned to it.
The other members are all very busy.. the guitarist is studying at
university, the drummer is currently doing the mandatory civil service, the
bass-player is working at a travel agency.
17.Do you plan to record a video in future?
An official video not because it's really too expensive. But we have a lot
of shows recorded with camera and an incredible selection of video-footage
going from 1988 to the current times, so as soon as I'll find some time and
money, I'll put it all together and I'll see about releasing a collective
C.B. VHS with all our shit through the years.
18.Do you believe in god and devil, and what is your opinion about
church,and sect?
I believe in negativity and the fact that sometimes the events conditioning
our lives are determined by ourselves in some unconscious way. It's
difficult to explain it. My life has been too negative and badly-sorted to
simply tell "it's my fate", I think there shound be something else... But
not god or devil, it's all up to ourselves.
The church or any religious movement.. well, it's a big shame, not worth of
my words or thoughts.
19.Plans for the future?
In the next months we'll have some new singles coming out:
- CRIPPLE BASTARDS / REGURGITATE split 77" (E.U.'91 Produzioni)
- CRIPPLE BASTARDS / CORRUPTED split 7&qquot; (Frigidity Discos)
- CRIPPLE BASTARDS / DENAK split picturee 7" (Cathartic Dogma Rec.)
..and later we'll see about releasing a new album or something like that.
This year the main live events for CB will be the appearance at Fuck The
Commerce IV Festival in Germany, the Obscene Extreme Fest 2001 in Czech and
some other gigs all around.
20.Say something for the end?
puno pozdrava to all my friends in Yugoslavia!! I really hope to come back
there some day and visit Beograd + surroundings... Crna krava belo mleko!!
