Fri, November 08, 2002

Born in Melbourne, Australia on May 28th 1968, Kylie first came to the British public's attention from her appearance on the soap Neighbours. She released a cover version of Little Eva's Locomotion which was a big hit going to number 1 in Australia and England. Kylie was now signed up to the hugely successful production team of Stock Aitken Waterman.
Kylie's sister Dannii, herself a pop singer though not achieving the same level of success has had some singles in the British charts. The press claimed that there was some rivalry between the two but this has never been substantiated.
In the 90s Kylie went through a phase of different collaborations in order to try and shake her squeaky clean image.

Artist of the Week: Natalie Imbruglia - Beauty On The Fire

Fri, September 27, 2002

Just I want to say she have a very great voice, and the way she looks in her videos. And Natalie have a Dreamy Eyes, if you look exactly to her eyes (look from your heart) you will find a lovely light makes me love her very much. And her way in singing (soft rock), I love this way very much.
Natalie has Italian blood in her veins, her father is from Italy, hence the name Imbruglia, her mother however is from Australia. Natalie was the oldest child in that family, she has three younger sisters. Her family was a "non-showbis" family apart from her father's singing in a band called "The Birds And The Bees".

Artist of the Week: Celine Dion - I'm Alive

Sat, September 7, 2002

Legions of fans in Canada and abroad recently shared a moment of sadness as Celine Dion announced her retirement. While understanding Dion’s need for rest – after a non-stop career that earned her international stardom and success – people can’t help but feel she is retiring prematurely. Yet Celine’s story has never been conventional, and it is this unconventional path that forged a star.
Celine Dion was born into a large French-Canadian family in 1968, the youngest of fourteen children. Celine began singing at the young age of 5 and recorded her first demo by age 12. Little did Dion realize that the man who first heard this demo, Rene Angelil, would someday become her husband.

Artist of the Week: Alanis Morissette - Precious Illusions

Friday, July 19, 2002

Alanis Morissette (b. June 1, 1974, Ottawa, Canada) was one of the most unlikely stars of the mid-'90s. A former child actress turned dance-pop diva, Morissette transformed herself into a confessional alternative singer/songwriter, in the vein of Liz Phair and Tori Amos. However, she added enough pop sensibility, slight hip-hop flourishes and marketing savvy to that formula to become a superstar with her third album, Jagged Little Pill. Morissette was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. In her childhood, she began playing piano and writing songs. At the age of ten, she joined the cast of You Can't Do That on Television, a children's television program.

Artist of the Week: Avril Lavigne - Complicated

Friday, July 12, 2002

Anything but ordinary. That's putting it mildly when describing Avril Lavigne. A skater-punk, a dynamic spirit, a true wild child. One of those rare creatures who started wowing people with her voice and character at around age 2. A small-town kid who couldn't sit still in class but had the confidence and determination to take off, virtually on her own, to hone her songwriting skills in New York City and Los Angeles. A startlingly up-front and outrageous 17-year-old with everything it takes to reach stardom-completely on her own terms. "I'm just coming out and I'm going to clearly be myself-I write what I feel, I never worry what others think, " Avril avows. "I'm gonna dress what's me, I'm gonna act what's me and I'm gonna sing what's me."
